Not it either
And BTW I think Jose values both the Raps and the Spainish basketball team the same but I think he knows that it is the right desicion for him to sit out and not play

He just better be ready to play when training camp starts.

Or else what? No idea. It would just suck. It's the downside of these competitions.

Or else we are royally fucked, most likely.

The same could be said about any star participating in these Olympics, of whom there are plenty...

"With respect to myself, my only concern is the small pull that I felt in the groin almost at the end of the game. I feel a little soreness in the affected area, but until tomorrow I will not know the reach of the possible injury. We will have to wait a few hours to see how is the injury evolving, and depending on the results, we will know if I can play or not. In any case, with Ricky and Raul, the PG position is well cover and the team is prepared for any absence."

Relax guys

Calderon To Undergo Precautionary MRI Scan

Aug 21, 2008 6:35 AM EST
Raptors' point guard Jose Calderon will undergo an MRI scan for his strained adductor muscle on Thursday, according to a report by Matthew Sekeres of the Globe and Mail.

Calderon says he is fine and that the scan is precautionary and that he has spoken to Raptors' GM Bryan Colangelo. Calderon is representing Spain in the Olympics and will play against Lithuania tomorrow for a chance to play off for the gold medal.

“He also assured me that he would not put himself in a situation that would jeopardize his injury situation,” Colangelo said.

Jose needs to do the math.

They have no chance for Gold.

And silver, well, they really don't play for second at that level.

Time to shut er down.

Learn from Nash, hell he won't even play, it's all about your day job.

BC is there, in Beijing, keeping close tans on the situation. I am sure he is going to do all that needs to be done (or all that could be done).

Even though I hate for this to happen as a Raptros' fan, I completely understand Jose. A chance to play for Olympic gold comes once in a lifetime for most players who don't represent USA, so right now he'd probably give one of his kidneys to play for his country in the Finals.

How many million dollars did Raptors give this guy in order to win an NBA Championship hopefully some day? That is just as important or should be and if it is not than I don't want that player on my team in general.

That's asking a lot.

You want him to turn down the gold medal game based on the fact no one thinks they'll win?

If he's injured to the point where playing is going to do significant damage, then fine, he shouldn't play. But for him to say "we likely won't win this game, so I'll shut it down early"? That's not really the attitude I'm looking for from any Raptors player in any situation.

Admitting defeat prior to the game being played would be a slap in the face to Spain and Spanish basketball, not to mention his teammates and coaches. Can you imagine if a Canadian hockey player did that in the Olympics? It would be a shit storm.

And Nash played when he was younger, like Jose is. He played damn well too.

if he's hurt he's hurt.

period.

You walk away from your job to do something, find out you may get hurt doing it, work knows, everyone knows, YOU DON"T GET PAID WHEN YOU"RE OFF WORK ONCE YOU GET HURT.

So I guess as long as his contract comes off the books, and he is happy living on long term disability....ya thats cool, lace um up.

If not. Si the fuck down and honor your contract bitch. Or go the Garbo route, we all know how that worked out.

Ps. Spain ain't team canada. They have NO CHANCE to win a gold...none.

Yeah Nationalism is great and all but let's face it who here would turn down a job in another country for the type of money Calderon is making. If that meant making some kind of consessions that would have impact on your native country in a sport would you still not take the cash and be happy for yourself. I love Canada and all but fact is I am much more concerned with my personal success than that of my country as I think most of us are if we are completely honest about it.

An NBA Championship should be the number 1 priority for everyone that is on Raptor Roster bottom line. Bosh sat out last year and risked being left of Team USA for the Olympics but he did what was right for his employer the Raptors

Smith's blog says that Jose is going to sit out the next game, and Jose has reassured BC that he will not take any undue risks.

I totally agree with that.

I just don't think the fact that they will likely lose the gold medal game should be a factor. If they had no chance to make the game, then that's a different story, but they're on track to be there right now.

I'm all for being realistic, and realistically they aren't going to win, you're right. But try telling that to a Spaniard. You can't expect a team to shut down a starter because they are unlikely to win the championship game...they have to give it everything they've got.

But yes...if there is an injury risk he's got to sit, regardless of what game it is or who they're playing against.

A prudent course of actions indeed. With BC there and in the loop, Caldy is going to be very sensible.
