Calderon & Jack - The NBA’s Best Point Guard Combo?

Is Jarrett Jack the best backup point guard in the league? I think he might be. It would be a whole lot like Jose’s pairing with TJ, and as long as they can coexist, that’s a great thing, basketball-wise.

Feel free to disagree…Is anybody better?

Here are NBA rosters to help you out.

Depends if Chicago will keep Hinrich or not.

Kidd & Barea is pretty good. Same with Rose & Hinrich. Harris & Alston should be a good one.

Orlando is going better and better :yeah:

Someguy again 07-23-2009 04:08 PM

Steve Nash and Barbosa plus Chris Paul and that guy

halphbreedballer 07-23-2009 04:08 PM

They are the best 2 point guard combo in the league for sure!

Vittorio De Zen 07-23-2009 04:32 PM

My vote goes to Chris Paul and whoever plays the other 10 minutes (likely Darren Collison).

I think that Calderon and Jack have tough competition for the title:

Arenas and Foye
This pairing has more talent than Calderon and Jack. The real question is could this pairing be more effective than Calderon and Jack?

Paul and Daniels
Paul is the best PG in the league and it could be argued that he may be the best player in the league. Daniels is a quality back up.

Rose and Hinrich
Rose is better than Calderon. Hinrich is better than Jack. Hell, Hinrich isn't that far behind Calderon. I would place the Bulls pairing ahead of the Raps new duo.

Parker and Hill

Tony Parker is a top five PG in this league. Hill was an eye opener last season. He came out of nowhere and played some damn fine ball in place of Parker.

These pairings are pretty damn good too.

I would rank the PG duos like this:

1. Rose and Hinrich
2. Paul and Daniels
3. Calderon and Jack
4. Arenas and Foye
5. Parker and Hill

I think it is at least in the top 5 best point guard combo in the league. A better description I think would be 'point guard solutions' for a whole game.

It's hard for even the best PGs to compete with a pair including a great and a solid court leader who can share minutes, and this is not even to mention the resiliency and diversity supplied by two individual players.

Ellis and Curry also have a whole lot of potential.

bjjs 07-23-2009 04:50 PM

They're right in the middle of the pack.

zachus 07-23-2009 05:03 PM

I think of a "combo" as a package deal, the combined effectiveness of both players' styles for the betterment of the team. IMO Rose/Hinrich and Calderon/Jack are the most effective "combos" because the drop-off is minimal and their play styles differ enough to keep defenses on their toes. Paul / Daniels aren't as effective as a "combo" because there is a pretty significant drop-off (tough not to have one) and Daniels is there just to back Paul up, not necessarily give defenses a different look.

acopur 07-23-2009 05:36 PM

rose and hinrich combo is also good..

VanCity 07-23-2009 07:16 PM

devan harrise and rafer alston....thats a pretty good combo...rose/hinrich....i also like fisher/farmar/brown.....

Dann38 07-23-2009 07:24 PM

Devin Harris vs. Rafer Alston - now there's your point guard controversy.
Fight! fight! fight!

Febreezy 07-23-2009 07:27 PM

There up there alright.
But Rose and Hinirick are gonna challenge em.

WOAH middle? as in around 15? defenitely NO. I would say they are top 5.

Torontosaurus 07-23-2009 11:09 PM

Definitely a great combo as they bring different things to the pg role

Calderon - playmaking, shooting, ball-handling, among others

Jack - good D, intensity, slashing, among others

They will definitely complement each other and their differing strengths will help with match-ups against whoever they're playing that night

rodstriker 07-24-2009 12:33 AM

There are a ton of better combos...

Look at:
CP3 + Darren Collison or Antonio Daniels
Chauncey Billups + Ty Lawson or Anthony Carter
And now Deron Williams + Eric Maynor

For sure Jack is one of the best back ups in the league, but CP3, Williams, Billups and Parker (the best PGs in the league in order) are >>>>>>>>>>> than Calderon. Not because of playmaking (Calderon is great here), but for having pull up J's, to break anyone off the drible, to post up other guards (like Billups) and play defense.
