I've never found his defense to be as bad as everyone thinks it is, so whatever. And to be playing point guard, you have to be gifted athletically and Jose is a damn athletic dude don't kid yourself. Just because you can't jump like Vince or beat someone off the dribble like CP3 doesn't qualify you as a poor athlete. Court vision, hands, ball handling, awareness - all traits of an elite athlete.

I don't entirely disagree.
He's not as quick as you'd like, but he plays smart defense, a lot of smart lane disruptions. He has great legs, one is hurt. But they are strong, and reliable (knee issues are not a problem) He is athletic. He can dunk and do all that shit. And he's fast..not quick, but he's fast. Pushing the ball, he hasn't shown it as often as I'd like, but he has also been on a team where it wasn't something they wanted for three years |

The negatives came at the end of the description. This one stuck out for me:
Doesn't take many risks. Very true. The emphasis on JC's assist-to-turnover-ratio seems to have made his game very "safe" at the expense of creativity. |

Well I completel disagree on his defense; it is occasionally sufficient, but never solid. It's his lateral movement and footwork that is the problem, in my opinion.
I'd still take him over the majority of other PG's in the league. |

I've said it before - the Raptors' defense as a team historically has been awful. In a good defensive system, a poor defender's weaknesses can be hidden to an extent (again, I don't think Jose is a poor defender); because the Raptors' team defense has typically been crappy, Jose's shortcomings on defense are magnified.

decent defender. not great, but decent (as SJ alluded to)
excellent control of the ball smart / safe passer good shooter. His cautiousness can be a flaw and i too think he should take more risks sometimes. high dribbler? come on. You make him out like he should be a chump third stringer with your description. and please don't respond in saying that's what he should be. please don't. |

He does dribble pretty high.
But he's at his best when that's all you can really point to on that list. I disagree that this team has not looked for him to push the ball more for the last three years. I would say that the lack of a guy like Marion as opposed to what has been here at his spot has made it harder to push the ball. I agree that he's fast and I think he displays some measure of quickness at times, again at his best. The thing I look for to change is getting to the line. The original description says that he's aggressive, but I think his lack of FT's indicates otherwise. Still - when he's at his best - that is what stands out. |

alright, but definite flaws are
He tends to look for his teamates more than his own shot, even when they're struggling and hes on fire controled high dribbler ( not 3rd string material, but pretty high) does sometimes tend to play it to safe. |
