Brandon Roy?

He's been amnestied... What do you guys think about bringing him here to help Demar? Granted he'd probably be used better with a contending team, but he could teach Demar a thing or two...

I guess he changed his mind on retirement?
Kinda odd.

No, they still pay him but this way it doesn't go against the cap.

If he retires for medical reasons it's still a cap hit? OUCH didn't know that.

They had a choice of letting him medically retire, but that can take some time to get approval for the cap space, and they risk the mess they had with Darius Miles (I think) recently. By using the amnesty, the issue is resolved once and for all. They don't really have any other candidates anyway.

Ahhhhh

The Blazers have decided to use their amnesty clause on Brandon Roy, according to sources.

Portland had to use their amnesty waiver on Roy in order to sign Jamal Crawford to the mid-level exception.

If they let him medically retire, they won't see the cap relief for a calander year. And that's after it's approved. They had to get him off the cap faster than that to sign Crawford, even if it meant paying his salary.

Maybe someone else can lend their wisdom on whether an amnestied player's salary can be retro-actively covered by insurance if the player is unable to play?

Naw ..

He's a no go folks. Yes the kid can still shoot. But his injuries are non-recoverable. It's best he leaves the game standing tall, then slumped over in a ball of painful mess in an NBA gym.

I'm gettin' all teary eyed over here...WAAAAAAA, yah right
