Raptors BR: Off season grades so far

Quote:
The Toronto Raptors haven't done much, but the moves they did make were largely positive and will aid the team's depth going forward.

Trading Andrea Bargnani for Steve Novak, Quentin Richardson, Marcus Camby and three draft picks, one of which comes in the first round, was a genius move by new GM Masai Ujiri. I still think he must have hypnotized the entire front office of the New York Knicks. Perhaps the NBA should look into this.

Signing Tyler Hansbrough was another quality move, as the former UNC standout will provide energy and intensity off the bench each and every time he sees the court.

Toronto's big move, acquiring Rudy Gay, came last year, but this offseason allowed the Raptors to continue on in the right direction.

Yup, cant disagree with this. Masai is a good GM. All deals made so far maintain flexibility.

I don't really think we won by trading away Bargnani for Novak, Camby, Richardson

If you look at it Camby and Rich won't even play here or get traded or has any value.

So it's simlply Bargnani who has talent for Novak and few picks. The truth to be told, Bargnani might be a stop bag, but he still can be good, while Novak at best can be a decent signing.

Sure, some lotery picks never hurts, BUT they're not going to be high knowing the Knicks are always aiming for the deep PO's.

other than that, free agent signings were good, but I believe Bargs might have a strong season if the injury's passes him.

I'll take Novak + 3 picks + saved cash for Bustani and consider us lucky.

I'm still baffled that we acquired anything of use for Bargnani at this point.

Novak, 3 picks, Hansbrough, Augustin in and Bargs, Anderson, Telfair and Lucas out... if we just lost those four for nothing i'd call it a win. I'd give UJIRI an A-

Getting rid of Bargs
Going from a main PG backup in JL3 to Augustin
Getting Hansborough
Getting rid of Kleiza

All I'm counting right now are positive improvements, so I can't complain

Look, the chances are Bargnani will never ever be consistently good or even show any effort on a game-to-game basis so who cares? They can worry about that now. Atleast we got a guy who knows what the hell he is doing, brings that skill every night and is called by some the best in the league at it(Novak). The one thing Bargnani was supposed to be good at was shooting, and he can't even do that for fuck sakes. Ironic how we get the best shooter in the league for him. And a first rounder is always valuable, no matter how you look at it. You always have a chance to take out a solid player in the first round.

Even if Bargs would become an all star I wouldn't feel bad, because i have no doubt that he could never do it here.
Novak- meh he can shoot, but overall I'm not all that excited about him
Q-Rich- is gone
Camby- Gone, so you can take those two out of the equation.
first rounder!! that's what excites me! first rounder is always a good thing, but wait.. NY big stars expire at 2015 so it is possible that they are not going to be all that good.

It's really simple for me, if you told me 2 months ago, that we can get anything more than a sack of potatoes I would be ecstatic. So well done MU!

Trading of Barg <> Novak + picks might not necessarily be an upgrade on our roster, but it will give more room for our existing PFs (or new PF) to get more Playing time.

Also, keep in mind that Ujiri was the GM that drafted Kenneth Faried with 22nd pick.

If NYK ends up giving out 20-25th draft picks to Raptors, we can expect Ujiri to draft the next MANIMAL in the future draft!!!

So it was an excellent move. Let's go Ujiri!!

and i though i was one of the most optomistic Raptors fans.

the barg trade, even not a good one, is great beacause MU get ride of our pleg.
When you have a player like barg, whom don't make up, don't believe in the team, that a bad thing for the other young players.
now, it's like a new start with almost the same roster.
i'm not even a big fan of novak, and yes camby and q-rich are uselees for us now, but here is flexibility.
so to be fair, that trade bring us hope of another futur. that's all. but that's big.

Did you guys even have a Summer League team? Or was that part of the deal for Rudy Gay?
