Bosh putting things in perspective now and in the future

Just caught this at Doug Smith's blog. I like what Chris has to say and I guess I'm one of those impatient Raptors fans that is expecting more right now instead of waiting for a couple years down the road. :(

I'm with Chris...I love being a Raptors fan this year and last... we're not overlooked anymore...we can win on any given night and the future is really bright. I think that's a lot to be greatful for as fans and yeah while doing what Boston has done will be cool for those fans, if we can win a championship in the Bosh era it will be a lot sweeter because we watched it unfold..rather than pull a yankees and buy it now.

I'd rather have a team that wins 2 more games each year for 10 years, even if we don't win a title, rather then win a title and then collapse like miami. Titles are overrated - the real fun is winning regular season games. There's nothing like a win from behind to erase a bad day at work ... :) The finals are in june, which is a fun month in itself ...

lol wow, so you rather be the kings of old or the suns of last few years then MIA?? Wow, i rather win a championship and blow the team up and suck for 10 years. Rings is what we are playing for, the big ass party at the end of the year, getting to laugh at american fans as we parade around town as champs, just like the blue jays glory days, i wouldnt trade those titles to be good the last 10 years, im glad we won em.

Raptors are definately more respected then a couple years ago, but by no means do ppl percieve us as a real threat.

The high point as a team image wise league wide was after we lost to Philly in 7 games and resigned a bunch of players in the off season and got Hakeem (obv that wasnt a great move but many thot it could work out at the time). Many ppl were picking us to win the east that year and we had a more complete team then, then we have now, along with some tough Vets to help lead the way... obv it didnt work out, but to me that was the best time to be a rap fan, with now being a close 2nd.

heh. interesting comparisons.

Personally, i'd HATE to cheer for a team like Miami. To go from such a high to such a low so quickly must be so defeating for a fan of that team.

Given that specific scenario, yeah.. i would rather cheer for a team like Pheonix who consistently plays well in the reg. season and goes far in the playoffs for a large number of years as opposed to a Miami who had 2-3 good seasons (with one championship) but then slam back down into the basement.

Championships are nice.. hell the'yre incredible, but then to have to put up with garbage for many more years almost defeats the winning of the championship in the first place.

though hindsight is...looking at miami, and looking at the way these guys are playing right now, i think a nucleus of wade, odom, and caron butler is better than the marion thing they've got going. also, they would've had some cap space a couple of years to go after a couple guys and some draft picks.

miami is the worst, even when they won the title, they weren't all that good. I think they only had one really good season - and now they're the laughinstock of the league. They're lucky though, because they got rid of shaq and now they have a chance to return to respectability next season, otherwise they could have been in for years of pain, maybe wade would have bolted in his free-agency and they had absolutely nothing else ...

Miami had a great promising team when they made it into the second round of the playoffs in 2003-2004 with Odom, Caron Butler, Rafer, Haslem and Wade.

That team probably wouldn't have won a championship as soon as the team with Shaq did, but would've been one of the top tier teams in the East for a long time.

edit: Just read Cling's post. Whoops, basically the same thing he said.

They had Kapono too, I think.

U seriously rather be the Utah Jazz of old, always good but never the best?

Superjudge 02-21-2008 01:59 PM

problem with getting better is that you have to pay guys accordingly.

Managing a roster is nothing short of Freemason Alchemy!

definitely - I guess it's a philosophical issue, I never liked the whole King for a day trade-off. It only makes the rest of your days more miserable, since you know what you're missing ... :)
