Default Bosh Declares It's MVP or Bust

WOW .... those are some pretty big words coming from CB4. Only problem is that its going to take alot more than games like he had the other night against weak opponents like the Bobcats before he gets some serious consideration. Plus, MVP's don't usually win the award when playing on sub par teams like ours right now either.

I've been sharing that with my family, I haven't shared it with you guys yet but now you know -- but I came into this season saying I'm going to give it a shot. I think I can get it. We need more wins of course but when I think of MVPs in the past I think of consistency. Every night they put it out there on the floor and when they need it, they put their teams on their backs. They're valuable so that's what I'm trying to be. A valuable asset to this team."

Show up against KG and Sheed and not get beat by sub par PF's then we'll talk. Until then, I'm not listening to what he has to say.

That's a very odd thing for someone to say. I mean, in the end, it's all about championships - not individual awards. You never know..maybe his comments are 2-fold - maybe he's also indirectly planting a seed to get out of town in 2 years..

I love it!!! When did you ever hear Vince Carter talking this way? He was focused on All-Star Appearances and Dunk Contests. Plain and simply put:

Chris Bosh GETS IT

Excellent point.

It's not a bad thing about saying, I want an MVP award, but usually that's coupled with, I want a ring too. And if he wants that MVP award, he's going to have to make teammates better something I don't think he does that well, on the court.

Bosh can get all the stats he wants, but if his team doesn't improve especially in the standings it doesn't count for shit. I think he should be more worried about this current team's status then some accolade.

Have you guys noticed that MVPs are always on teams that are top 5 in the league? In order for Bosh to get MVP, Raps need to improve their record, A LOT.

First time something out of Bosh's mouth that scared me.

Here's hoping Dino Blogger is right and it's a pounding of the chest instead of a losing of the mind.

He can walk on water, heal the sick, come back from death 3 days later and all that crap and it still will not be enough unless Raps make the post season.

I see nothing selfish or concerning with the way he ended that quote. Bosh is always about the team, and that quote has nothing to do with just scoring. It has to do with being the best basketball player he can be for his team.

This also may have something to do with getting some respect from the officials come playoff time. If he ends the season a very serious mvp candidate, maybe the officials will be less likely to let him get abused and held every time down the court. Especially if he continues to show the aptitude for flopping that he did against Charlotte.

I think what he's saying is that he will try toplay like an MVP, not that he's the best player in the league. Which is good - in itself, and because it helps with his status with the refs. Once you become a ~30ppg player, you move to a different level.

Sounds good to me. As mentione above, now learn to bring it against other MVP's and elite teams.

As people have correctly pointed out it takes a few things to be considered an M.V.P:

A good to great record
Making your team around you better

I challenge anyone to say that Chris Bosh is not a highly intelligent young man. So if we accept that as fact. He knows these 2 things very well. He understands that no individual honour can come his way if it is not matched with team success. Raptor fans need to look at how Lebron James has handled all this 2010 nonsense in comparison to Chris Bosh. Bosh has taken the high road and chosen to focus on the team he is playing for and his performance on that team. James meanwhile is as busy creating hype with Red sneakers and Yankee Hats and Knick Logos over his shoulder. I have no doubt he is focused on playing well and his team but is sending and creating a mixed message and a split focus. In the end of 3 main guys Wade, James and Bosh. I feel that Raptor Fans have the least to worry about. The catch is Raptor fans based on history are the most concerned based on the franchise history.

Chris is not... Vince, Tracy or Lebron.

He's:

2nd in the league in scoring.
5th in the league in rebounding.
2nd in the league in efficiency.
10th in the league in field goal percentage.
1st in the league in free throw attempts made.
2nd in the league in minutes-per-game.

I think he's making a serious case for himself.

Agreed, that's really the clincher of course. But it would be a travesty if he continued to put up monster numbers and was snuffed.

What are the chances of him making Most Improved Player if he continues improving his stats?

Even if Bosh keeps up his numbers, he still won't get the MVP unless Raps win 48+ games this season (break the franchise record), and I don't see that happening with this team.
