Bosh Commits to Team USA

Good for him
Quote:
USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo told FanHouse that Raptors forward Chris Bosh has committed to play for the team.

Colangelo added that he's optimistic that Cleveland star LeBron James will commit as well.

On Wednesday USA Basketball will announce between 25 and 28 names in the mix to play in Turkey at this summer's World Championships as well as in the 2012 Olympics in London.

"He's in," Colangelo said of Bosh.

"I feel very good about it. He's got his free agency situation, but he understands we'll want him at (a July minicamp in Las Vegas) even though he won't have to participate. If you show respect to somebody, respect comes back to you."

"If I were a betting man, I'd say yes," Colangelo said of LeBron playing for Team USA.

Bosh said at practice today that he hadn't fully committed and he didn't know where that story was coming from.

Yep. He denied the story in an interview. Said he needs to get other things (contract) in order first and then see what happens. Pretty tight schedule to make it happen if he wants to play. I guess he will be part of the team if he knows where he is going by the time he can sign the contract. If he will wait to see all offers and see how it turns out, he wont have time to attend team USA camps.

Good to see Bosh's main priority is re-signing in Toronto

hopefully the offer will be made on or near the 1st and negotiations won't take too long

committing to team USA almost certainly means he'll resign here imo
which is why he's denying the story

it's probably good news, very likely it's true, I don't see Jerry Colangelo making up stuff like that ...

^^^^

Moremilk I agree. the only way he will fully commit is cuz he knows he'll just resign in TO and cuz of that he won't have to negotiate with other teams

Raptors forward Chris Bosh is denying reports that he has already committed to play for Team USA this summer.

USA Basketball's Jerry Colangelo was quoted on Friday as saying that Bosh had already committed.

Bosh reiterated that he won't sign on until his pending free agency is solved.

"I'll talk about that after (free agency)," Bosh said.

"I don't know where that came from. I got so many calls on that. I'm like, 'Come on.'

"Maybe the words got mixed up. It's only smart, not to play (while unsigned) and risk injury."

Even if Bosh re-signs with Toronto quickly or lands elsewhere, he hinted that he's still not a lock to play for his country.

"I mean, that's a quick turnaround," he added. "Negotiations start July 1. There's a (USA) mini-camp in mid-July, and then a month later. It's a very short window of time. So I just want to take care of my business on July 1, and there's no telling how long that's going to take."

The under 20 nike tournament showed alot of promise for canada in the future, we might even be contenders in a few years time for FIBA.
