I thought this was pretty funny.

And if people never heard of Michael Phelps before, they'll soon know him by the end of these Olympics.

It really amazes me that people have never heard of Michael Phelps before this year. I was talking to some of my coworkers about it this morning and they were all ... Michael who?

Awesome story though.

phelps was pretty good at the last olympics, he had like 6 gold medals or something. If people don't know about him by now, likely it won't change - unless he makes good on his promise to get 8 golds this time around ....

^thats simply not true. BTW Phelps is already a legend. And probably will be even more at the end of this olympics. Although I think its pretty difficult he wins the 8 golds.

I didn't know him till the last week. I think if your not really interested in some (small) sports, your lucky if you listen about them (I don't watch too much TV), media doesn't cover them too much.

Not true. Swimming has been represented by some wonderful competitors in the last 10 years alone ... Ian Thorpe, Pieter van den Hoogenband, Grant Hackett, Brent Hayden, Ryan Lochte, Michael Phelps, Dara Torres, Thiago Pereira, Laszlo Cseh. Thorpe made headlines in Sydney by breaking and setting records, Phelps did the same in Athens ... Torres has been making headlines as of late. BBC News, the New York Times, Time Magazine, the Washington Post have fantastic swimming coverage ... just building up the excitement! It's going to be hella brilliant and awesome to watch!

who, who, who, who and who? :P

I heard of Thorpe actually, but i could care less. Surprised you didnt mention Mark Spitz?

Yea they get headlines, for the olympics, when its not the olympics they prob get small articles, face it, the majority of people could care less about swimming if its not the Olympics.

I myself jsut cant see the excitement in watching someone swim. I mean i could watch someone rollerblade too, doesnt make it a sport to me.

Mark Spitz competed in the 60s and 70s. I was talking about the last 10 years.

You have the right to your own opinions, of course ... I think it's a ridiculous sweeping statement to say that no one cares about swimming when, in fact, many people do ... or at least, if they read news papers and news websites, they have an idea of who the big guns in the swimming world are.

Im sure there are people that care about it, but im sure theres many more that dont, which is why it isnt a big revenue sport. I know you have to be in great shape to do it, i just find it boring to watch, no personal offense to you intended.

swimming is a great sport to watch, just like track and field - but you need to root for somebody. It gets pretty intense, especially those quick fast races. And swiminng is a bit time sport in many countries, Australia in particular.

Still ... I digress ... I though we were talking about Bosh

Phelps just won his first gold. He beat the record by 2 seconds.

Yeah that was an awesome IM that Phelps swam! Park, the Korean, winning gold after being disqualified in Athens was also a super story!

LOL ... Milk is right, this is getting off-topic. Sorry, Doc.

Swimming is marquee stuff.... always has been at the Olympics... the fact that it isn't all that well-followed between the Summer Games makes it MORE interesting, IMO. This is THE TIME for these athletes to shine.
