Default Blazer's Edge: Raptors A Treadmill Team

You think this is a fair assessment of this team this season?

Even if Toronto is the team to do it their chances against Orlando and Boston donít seem great and Detroit ainít dead yet either. While I certainly would have made the same moves given the situation this still feels like a treadmill deal. Itís just the treadmill is going a little faster now. Torontoís best hope is an all-out explosion by Calderon or Bargnani, providing them talent unlooked-for to pair with their big guys. Failing that, at least maybe they can muscle out a few more wins.

I actually think the Raps are more fit to beat Orlando than they are Cleveland, but that's just me.

Your looking at it the wrong way.

but itís just as likely that OíNeal and Bosh will look across the lane at each other and say, ďWaitÖI was my teamís version of you!Ē
That's what scared me a little bit about the deal with Indiana.

Wild card is Bargs ... if he steps up, there is a big chance Raptors will have a very nice post season run!

Definitely the wild card is Bargnani at this point.
A successful season for him = 50+ wins for the Raptors. I'm sure of it.

Guy is under it even on the bench ... out of the money, being a #1 pick isn't that good to grow up as a player in the NBA.

Although I also think that Bargs improvement can give us a lot as the first big man from the bench, those last 3 words say it all. IMO O'Neal has more to do with our success (or lack of, I mean, not improving the last 2 seasons)

Our success is based less upon Bargs fully developing, but rather our defence improving and our team finally developing a killer instinct.

Last season, we improved defensively, but our debaccle against Orlando in Game 1 and a few other games shows we still have ways to go before we become an upper tier team when it comes to our defense. And really, I'm speaking of team defense here, not individual defense. With the addition of J.O. I'm hoping we improve overall in that department.

On the killer instinct one, this is the one I want to see developed sooner rather than later. Too many times last season we'd be playing an opponent who we should destroy but we gave them openings and never put them away. San Antonio, once they enter the 4th quarter with a lead and are playing a lesser opponent, you know they will win that game. Also, we need to take advantage of opportunities. For instance, last season, we lose a late season game to a depleted Washington Wizards squad. Now, are the Wizards a well coached team etc. Yes. However, if you want to be considered a top 4 team in the East you need to begin to win those games often. Also, we're still a mediocre road team. I'm still afraid to play the Knicks in MSG even though it's a game we should win.

These are more important to develop, rather than the development of any one player. This is something that should be developed as a team, starting with our leader.

If you analyze carefully last season games, you will see Raptors won easily by a big margin when Bargs had a good game. Raptors won other games when Bargs was not a major factor, but more hard working wins and small margin.

when Bargnani plays well, we are unbeatable - that's how we won in Boston. I don't think there's a question about that. If he shoots well, it opens up the defense for everybody else. too bad it only happens once in a while.

They need to rely on defense and not Bargnani's offense. I want to see a defensive specialist come to the fore to match the improvement that should happen in the paint. Adams, Solomon, Moon and Ukic are the guys that I'm looking at closely to see if there's a sliver of a chance of that happening.
