Default Bird A Little Spiteful Towards JO?

Would you disagree or do think he was bang on regarding his comments towards Jermaine?

Well, doesnt matter now because JO is surrounded by Chris(team leader) AP(good head on sholders, leader) Jose, etc.

JO isnt expected to be a leader because Toronto is a team.
Those resposibilities will be shared.

there was no need to risk further injury to JOs knees, but at the same time it doesn't really show great leadership packing it in once you're out of the play-off race. for that, i can completely understand what bird is saying.

bird is old school.
he comes from that old school philosophy that if it isnt broken, or you're not bleeding - you should be playing.
( i love that philosophy btw)
JO didnt fit that mold... he didnt play hurt... bird took exeption to that and its no mystery how he felt about JO.
unfortunately for bird, thats the way the league is going.... so he better get used to it.

He actually came back and played in late March/April last year.

Secondly, he appears to be generalizing not pointing the finger at one person in particular.

Actually he played the last 10 games and then called it a season because the season was over. Not to mention he came back to try and help them make a push for the playoffs which if you recall they only missed by one game.

i agree with you - to an extent - about the "play through the pain" thing. I think there's a big difference between playing hurt like vince did and playing through a serious injury like JO did. Jermaine went through some pretty serious surgeries if i'm not mistaken and if he's you're not 100% on schedule with his healing and rehab - he's risking a hell of a lot more than some pain to play a few games.

Coming back too soon could certainly cause a bigger problem health wise in the end.

What the fuck.

He played three years on a torn fucking meniscus. Team Doctors knew it, and could have forced the effin proper surgery if they wanted but Bird wanted ONeal out there playing.

Fuck Bird.

And as for "old school".

Fuck that too. I'm old school. If you can't play, and you're hurting your team by playing, your a douchebag. ONeal was a douchebag for not getting the surgery, but he tried to play. Bird fucking knows it too. What Bird is pissed about, and I forget who told me this, but it's nice, he's pissed because now that Oneal has gone and done things right, and he's poised to becvome effective again, Bird has to live with the fact that all he got for him, was a *ahem* "pass first" PG with a bad neck and an old center.

(yes I said pass first, because apparently, thats what Danny Granger has been fooled into thinking he will be)

Bird has always been a trash talking douchebag. Sour grapes are fun when they are another team for once.

I agree with ACie and will take it one step farther.

I think this was directed at Tinsley just as much as JO.

And it could also be a warning shot for TJ.

I think TJ is going to have his best year statistically wise. Think about it - he's not going to be relied to be the secondary scorer because they already have Granger and Dunleavy - and he's going to be getting a lot of assists. I think 16 ppg and 9 assists per game is not a stretch in his first year (much like the numbers he put up in his first season here)

Hopefully all this drama will only push O'neal to prove Bird wrong and help him become a leading veteran presence on our team. It's hard to read the guys mind, however O'neal really is saying all the right things now and his head and heart seem to be in the right place. Bird (and Pacer fans in general) have some valid complaints about O'neal, but hopefully this change of scenery will be good for him and fo the Raptors.

Yesterday he was saying that it was mutually agreed upon that he should get his knee rested for the sake of his next team. Now he probably made it pretty clear that it was definitely his last season there if he had anything to do with it, but I suspect they were more than happy to move on at that point as well.
