Default Billups Urges Lowry To Take Advantage Of Opportunity With Raptors

Quote:
After a recent game between the Los Angeles Clippers and Raptors, Chauncey Billups had dinner with Kyle Lowry and let Lowry know that he has to take advantage of the faith that Toronto has given him.

Billups also impressed upon Lowry the trust the Raptors have in him to trade Jose Calderon and give him another shot as the starting point guard.

Billups advised Lowry not to damage his relationship with the Raptors again

It's nice to see that Lowry has changed his negative focus that he was exhibiting earlier in the season... he's got a fantastic opportunity here and he's starting to get it. We might want to re-up him this offseason for cheaper in case he comes out next season like he did the first three games of this year.

Or just don't care, play like shit, leave your teammates hanging and stop playing defense. It's proven that when you do those things you get a 5 year contract and a starting role on the Raptors.

We're all about accountability here these days.

I'm starting to agree with the logic that Kyle is sending Casey a message, and doesnt like Casey at all by playing like Calderon out there. He only shows flashes of aggression for small periods of time throughout games, but when he does we're a completely different team.

Hopefully next year with a new Gm and coach in place, he'll be go back to playing like the real Kyle Lowry.

And when neither happens will KL keep playing the way he is or will he be back to his real self full time?

I think the flashes of aggression happen while the anti-inflammatories are in full effect.

He's going to rock it next season.

I think you're right and probably the biggest potential contributing factor, when KL regains his form.

If Casey is still our coach, I expect Lowry to continue to be playing like Calderon out there unfortunately. We basically run the same set every play which doesnt involve Lowry in what he's most comfortable doing, which is screen roll. Hes going to be the guy delivering the ball to Droz or Gay off a downscreen and then move away from the ball to create spacing, and if he gets it back, he may or not take a contested 3. That's our offence. With a new coach, we should see a lot more Lowry/Val screen rolls, and opportunities created off of his penetration. The only thing that worries me about that though is our bad 3 point shooting on the wings, which is why I'm not a big fan of the Derozan/Gay combo. Both of them need to greatly improve their spot up 3 point shooting this offseason, because neither are good enough as primary offensive players, or together, to win us games with them isolating all of the time.

Hoping for the same thing...the guy through the first 10 games was playing like a definite all star

Now those 10 games were pre-injury and appears to me that the difference in play since coming back lends credence that KL is still hurt. Casey was/is the coach pre and post - is KL's continued up/down play a sign that he's not fully healed or is it the result of the coach tinkering?

I'd lean towards the latter but it's possibly a bit of both. Also,he could be trying to kill the misconception that he's a bad teammate by just giving in to what others want to make everybody happy. Next year is a make or break contract season for him,I'd expect the Lowry at the start of this season to run, especially if he's fully healthy..whether Casey is the coach or not,and if he is and wants something else..how could he justify benching a player/PG who is giving 18/8/8(which is around the numbers he started with)?

I just hope he's not like ocho and goes back to playing at THIS season's level once he get's his big pay day.

but he won't be cause he's less injury prone and I think a bigger warrior. kid has fire in him, you can see it. he's the pg version of amir.
