Big Trade In The Works?

Quote:

In the past, I've mentioned that the Toronto Raptors are a team to keep an eye on as the trade deadline approaches because of their young talent, expiring contracts, and large traded player exception. Once the drama surrounding Carmelo Anthony passes, league sources reiterated that they believe the Raptors will make a move. With so many teams waiting for a resolution on Anthony, Toronto has been limited in their discussions thus far. But once that's out of the way, one source said that they would be very surprised if the Raptors didn't make a move and described the front office as being "too quiet."

My hope is OJ Mayo lol

Peja Stojakovic is a likely candidate.

This knee problem is really strange. I was listening to "The Sportsnet Radio The FAN 590" last night. Eric Smith and Paul Jones told the callers that the media does not know more than the fans do.

It's strange how someone who has no structural damage reported on his knees does not improve his condition over a month.

Speculation.

That's a good word.

The article sums up what Raptor fans already know. BC has a massive TPE to play with, and a Peja expiring contract.

I'll believe it when i see it. The only thing is, we have a TPE, Peja, Jose, Expirings. So i wouldn't be shocked, especially with BC, he's pro-active. But i won't get my hopes up too high on us landing someone i would get overly excited about.

Like 99% of news that involve a trade. You answer like its not worth posting it.

The front office is "too quiet". What else do you need? This is going to be the deal to end all deals. I'm sure of it myself, because nobody is calling me about it. Or anything else for that matter.

I have no friends.:sigh:

by saying it's speculation, you take that to mean it shouldn't have been posted? Good lord!

Looks like poopsworld is drinking the BC Kool Aid. Nothings gonna happen by the trade deadline. Don't get your hopes up.

finstock 01-13-2011 09:41 PM

"Too quiet"? The front office just signed Sundiata Gaines! This article loses all credibility for failing to recognize that.

This is the Bleacher report fodder, but thought i'd throw this in here:

OJ Mayo and Hasheem Thabeet for Jose Calderon and Draft Picks: The Changing of the Guard

The Toronto Raptors are in dire need of consistent wing production. DeMarr DeRozan has been hot of late but he should not be the starting SG until he can improve his shooting and develop some consistency.

However, with this trade, he can come off the bench behind Mayo and learn by watching him play (which is an improvement over watching Sonny Weems or Leandro Barbosa) or Toronto could make him the starting SF for the rest of the season.

I would recommend the latter, since this gives him time to show us what hes got by putting his great slashing skills on display and ultimately it gives him more playing time which will help him develop. In addition, if he can improve his defense than this could even be a great long term solution.

The bottom line is, this is a great short-term solution (i.e: for the remainder of the season) since we have nothing to lose.

Besides, having some real competition ahead of him on the depth-chart might even give DeRozan that motivation he needs to elevate his game to the next level.

not really. with the way its going were looking at the eighth pick. mayo is a third pick. definatly worth it, especially since were getting rid of jose's long contract, and considering this draft is only 3 deep, and considering we get a potential defencive stronghold for the centre position. i actually love this trade, no matter which draft pick gets thrown in. however i would like to see sam young here. maybe use the tpe for that?

I have to agree. If we give up anything worse then a 6th pick i'm all for it for Mayo. He's what 23? In a weak draft, it's a crap shoot and Mayo is a bonified you emering player that has skills. The hard part is how do we know where we'll end up in the draft.

Snooch 01-13-2011 10:06 PM

Bayless/Barbosa/gaines
Mayo/Weems/Wright
Demar/Kleiza/Wright
Amir/Davis/Evans
Bargs/Dorsey/Thabeet

sigh me up.

+1 until you said Sam Young... would we really need another wing if Mayo was brought in?

Mayo was a third pick... Why wouldn't we move our pick to bring him in... he'd fit with our group especially with DD moving to the SF spot. Thabeet is a guy I've actually soured on, but at least he's big enough to back up at C for now.

Moving Jose out might actually make our pick better... but it would have to be a better player than Mayo to not do this deal...

fk24 01-13-2011 10:11 PM

Keep the draft picks. I'm not sure this team needs another undersized shooting guard.

carp 01-13-2011 10:12 PM

Mayo isn't undersized....
