Best and Worst Free Agents - ESPN insider

according to haberstroh, the second best fit for free agents would be tyson chandler as a raptor. he doesn't really elaborate beyond following casey here to anchor our defensive system, but i'm more than cool with the idea.

and

sitting at #6 at the worst fits, david west as a raptor. how that came about is beyond me. if insider costs more than a cup of coffee a month, i'd seriously ask for the heads of the people who approve these articles.

dfunkie1 11-29-2011 10:56 PM

forgot #7 on best fits; rodney stuckley as a raptor. i'd be okay with the idea if barbosa and one of bayless or calderon were sent packing, but i don't see how he'd fit here with our club.

Psi 11-29-2011 11:01 PM

7. Rodney Stuckey (R) -- Toronto Raptors

8. Arron Afflalo (R) -- Denver Nuggets

Windex 11-29-2011 11:22 PM

is this in terms of realistic destinations or are all 30 teams seen as options?

Don Vito 11-29-2011 11:26 PM

I really don't want Rodney Stuckey here. :sigh:

box92 11-30-2011 12:14 AM

Go ahead, brother.

I don't see any harm in posting it.

Here is the text on the two that pertain to the Raptors.

Worst Fits
6. David West -- Toronto Raptors
Inking West could be tempting for the Raptors. This offseason has the makings of a Toronto makeover with some money to burn, a new head coach in Dwane Casey and a desperate need for a franchise player (sorry, it's not Andrea Bargnani).

But West isn't a franchise player. Is his knee OK? Can he thrive without Chris Paul in the pick-and-roll? Can he help anchor defensive-guru Casey's frontcourt? Too many question marks surround West, making it unwise to amnesty Leandro Barbosa to free up the necessary cap room.

Best Fits
2. Tyson Chandler -- Toronto Raptors
Chandler could decide to return to the Mavericks, but he could also choose to follow Dwane Casey from the Dallas Mavericks' bench to Toronto. Casey, the newly hired Raptors head coach, was the defensive guru behind the Mavericks' wall that stifled the Los Angeles Lakers and the Miami Heat en route to a title.

Chandler flourished as the anchor to Casey's system, and the Raptors have the cash to offer the center big money. Of course, Dallas owner Mark Cuban notoriously breaks the bank for his centers, so there's a good chance Chandler will defend the title. However, a Casey and Chandler connection would be ideal for Toronto.

I'm not sure about paying "big money" for chandler.

That's my feeling - you know Cuban will match anything reasonable, and he can offer more years than we can. So the Raps would have to offer something like 12 million per for 4 years at least to pry him away. I don't want him at that price, so I don't want him.

Oh, and no thank you very much to Stuckey.

agreed on both. no need for stuckey.

12 million is waaaay too much for chandler! He's great, but we've got to consider how much value he'll add to us and it won't be 12mill! I honestly wouldn't even have him at 10mill, maybe even 8mill!?

what do you think dalembert would ask for?

Dalembert will sign with Miami for the MLE, and I wouldn't want to pay him much more than that, so I doubt we have a shot at him unless he just really wants to play in Canada (and Leo screwed that up for us).

Yeah, Sammy D would be a great grab for us but he's going to Miami.... he's gonna get the MLE and he'll be so close to his native Haiti. Leo and his ego screwed us on him coming here, he'd have been a great athletic body for this team..... though he's supposedly never been able to not accept being an afterthought on offense.

LKeet6 11-30-2011 10:35 AM

ah, didn't realise dal was a shoe-in for miami, shame.

i just want a good rather than great C, who is good value.

Okur is an expiring contract this year.... Utah has lots of bigs.

Some stiff like Gadzuric, or a guy in that mold, would probably be better off than bringing in another young body like Ajinca... professionalism that such a guy could bring would be a plus.

yep, okur sounds good. Anybody who is 60-80% as good as chandler and costs 10-20%!

LX 11-30-2011 12:52 PM

I don't think Cuban even necessarily overpay Chandler. He's in a good place and was very concerned about possibly not being able to return if the new CBA wouldn't make it feasible. The idea of following Casey to Toronto is just fantasy. Having him and Jonas would be pretty interesting.

LKeet6 11-30-2011 02:23 PM

battier and okur on 2 (maybe 3,) year deals at cheap(ish) money.

fantasy?

Okur is on a deal already... for this year... he'd need to be dealt for.
