Default The Best Player On The Toronto Raptors This Year Will Be.....

...Andrea Bargnani.

I am sorry if some of you were expecting a poll, or for me to ask you for your opinions, but I am not.

This is just another case of me pointing something out before the beginning of the year and being proven right eventually.

Nope he is not going to average over 10 boards, 7 maybe.

Yes he is going to average over 20ppg

Yes he will make those around him better

Here is where the difference will lay. Andrea Bargnani is a more than adequate man defender, point in fact he is and always was better than Bosh at 1-1 defence. Now we will have a proper defensive system though, and what he lacked in "help D" will be minimized.

He is still an impossible match-up for other teams when the raps have the ball, he is without a doubt our best scorer, and I don't think for a second that you will see what we saw last year.... You know Bargs 7-10 shooting the first half 20pts, and then not getting another fucking touch till the 4th quarter.

Now before some of you tell me about how he lacks "killer instinct", shut up. What the fuck does that even mean and how the hell do you know what is going on in his head.

and before you all get your Bargs hating panties in a bunch and start calling me a "fanboy". I will admit it for you. I am.

You are all tired of hearing "this is the year". Well Fuck You...THIS IS THE YEAR. If it's not I will admit I was wrong...

..hey there is a first time for everything.

If he doesn't play defense or at least look interested in playing defense I have a feeling Casey and he will not be chummy. I also think that Casey knows Derozan pretty well and might have the idea that he should be "the" guy.

The Casey-Bargnani dynamic will be interesting.

I actually agree Benzo - but it depends on how Bargs is used in the offense. He really needs to take 3's when they are there, and he really needs to drive whenever he can. Him losing some weight and doing cardio lately should help with that.

As for the defensive system, I'm an optimist as well - if Casey can develop a system where Bargnani is kept out of the primary help role, he should not be abused overmuch.

We'll see where DeRozan goes this year in terms of ball handling and shooting - if he can make a jump and Bargnani can get everything worked out under Casey's system, the Raps could improve a lot.

If not, well there's always next year.

Lots of optimism this year.... Bargnani has an opportunity before him and I think Casey is going to bring the best out of him. As for defense on this team, I really foresee a more physical team style coming and this is going to help all individual defenders.....

I actually think he will get somewhere around 8, maybe even 9.

benzo getting a bit excited there! wait till people respond to start dropping the F-bomb mate!?

Good post though. I always believe in being optimistic (whilst keeping it real,) and i agree that Bargs should improve for a variety of reasons.

I agree... though it really depends if he's out on the perimeter in zone as much as he was in Triano's system and on offence as well... he could easily bump up to 7, any more would be a nice gain.

that would be very good value for 10M

I would like to see AB really define himself somewhat in end of game situations... though hopefully DD will as well.... then we're really getting somewhere.

Who cares who the best player will be for the Lottery-bound Raptors. I think the best player for the 2001 Cavs is Lamond Murray or is it Ricky Davis? The best player for this franchise is either playing in Europe (Jonas) or playing US college ball. The team has some nice complementary and role players (Demar, Ed Davis, Amir Johnson), but their cornerstone players will not be playing for the team this year!!!

This is a stupid post, its like telling us that the best player for this franchise is playing for the heat or the lakers or the mavs.

Its dumb, and i care who the best player on this team will be.

FYI the best player on the 2001 Cavs was probably Andre Miller.

reins we're handed to DD at the end of last season, it quite obvious it will be his team(refs will see to it, Bargnani aint selling shit and italy is on the brink of insolvency). The real question is will ed davis surpass bargnani? and the answer is yes, so long as he doesn't demand out in order to get away for these short memoried Bargnani loving canadian's(is memoried a word? it is now, lick my crack)

sidenote: Bargnani man to man defence is a myth, always has been. I'll bet my entire sack(two balls and a scrotum) that there's not a scouting report on this planet that says bargnani's man to man is even average. Hell how can you play man to man when your too dumb to be in position most the time at the spot thats easiest to be in position for. HE'S JUST TOO DUMB, TOO SOFT, TOO LAZY!

to add, if i turn out to be wrong i will not be stepping to the plate like benzo to admit it. I will instead pull a disappearing act as i want no part of a society where Bargnani is widely praised

We will all see this year that Bargs has a massive unit.

And it has just been hiding while he was making adjustments to the weather here. Handed the reins to Derozan? when was that? Guy is more inconsistant than my dumps after a week long burrito binge.

No, its telling us who cares who is the best player on a crappy team. If Andrea is your best player on your team, you will have a top 5 pick in the lottery for the next few years. Its nice to see the development of Demar and Ed Davis, but more excited on Jonas and what will be getting (Drummond, Davis, Barnes, Rivers) on a stacked draft.

inconsistent until he put up 20 a game for the second half while Bargnani was sitting out VS every team with a front line because his ankle was sore. by the end of the season derozan was more comparable to my shit before i started smoking weed everyday
