Berger: Lowry might be moved

What a fucked up organiation!!!

Quote:

Toronto is perhaps the most realistic landing spot for Gasol, given the uncertainty in the organization about whether Andrea Bargnani will ever develop into a star there. Bargnani wouldn't have to be a star in LA. He would simply have to stand at the 3-point line and make shots, a La Howard's former teammate in Orlando, Ryan Anderson. Toronto also has a point-guard problem to solve. And while Jose Calderon has frequently been mentioned as trade bait, league sources say the Raptors are far more amenable to trading Kyle Lowry, who has not made many friends in his new surroundings. The Raptors gave up a sure lottery pick for him (which Houston subsequently sent to Oklahoma City in the James Harden trade), so Gasol might be a way to salvage that transaction. Plus, with the new CBA taking effect and shortening teams' windows for winning, a team like Toronto might feel better about committing 1 seasons to Gasol than using its cap room this summer to sign a lesser player for four years. Can't say I'm at all happy about this.

pzabby 01-25-2013 10:16 PM

I don't buy it. If true I give up as a fan. I'll just watch more soccer

LX 01-25-2013 10:27 PM

If it's Gasol coming back then it makes sense, I guess. Him and Jose would have the chemistry right off. LA taking Bargnani would be freaking hilarious.

yeah cause it'd be L.A getting highway robbery once more. lowry on a cheap contract, bargnani to provide spacing which is what they need, AND they get rid of a stupidly inflated contract? givem jose and i'm ok with it. lowry? fucking ridiculous if it happens.

Superjudge 01-25-2013 10:34 PM

meh... if it was something they wanted to do., there is a reason for it, like he asked to be traded etc.

LX 01-25-2013 10:34 PM

Really it would be two fucked up organizations, Although Gasol might be worth having here. But him salvaging a lost pick? Not so much.

La needs to trade Howard anyway. If they trade Gasol and Howard leaves, they end up stuck with Bargnani and little else.

Agreed, but we as the Raptors must stay in the ridiculous category.

Considering that BC has been working the press and sending the message that either pg could be available, "league sources" could be a plant used to try to move a deal for Jose along quicker, and with more given up.

VanCity 01-25-2013 10:49 PM

I am all for bringing Pau here but not by giving up on lowry. Jose has been, at best, "average" during his career in toronto. Lowry looked like a top 5 pg in Huston. And after all we gave up to get him here we are going to let him go?

Pau would be an awesome fit here. Starting him and Ed would be a perfect match imo. Jonas and amir coming off the bench would be fantastic aswell.

If Lowry gets traded and jose is resigned, I will have to find a new team to cheer for because this organization is a fucking joke. If BC even considers trading Kyle, the hierarchy should fire him immediately.

Has Lowry really not made any friends on the team? It seems like he's cool with everyone even being somewhat of a role model to DD earlier this season. I'll be so pissed if they move him

Pretty much sums it up for me.

That part makes no sense. He's been working out with Alan Anderson every summer for the last 4-5 years and also seems to get along pretty well with his teammmates while on the bench from what i see. This team has completely botched this whole situation again imo and it's an absolute joke.

Trading a lotto pick for an aging Pau Gasol? Sounds like something Colangelo would do. He'll also be the mentor Bargnani's never had. :cookie:

jeffb 01-25-2013 11:05 PM

Trading a 1st round pick for a talented PG and deciding to trade him after 30GP sounds about right for this team.

Since coming back from injury Lowry's per 36 numbers while coming off the bench:

17.1/8.6/4.7 On 65% TS. and 2.4 TO's.

^ Yep, time to get rid of him, he's been here long enough.

Superjudge 01-25-2013 11:10 PM

Houston couldnt get rid of Lowry fast enough.

Memphis too.

He aint all that

And saying Calderon has been average at best is just stupid. Sorry man, it just is.

LX 01-25-2013 11:14 PM

Who knows what league sources means or what they are referring to? Maybe Lowry was frustrated at one point. Berger is just trying to put 2 and 2 together, but there is no sense that he has any idea whether any of this is something that Toronto is looking to do. The fact that he suggests on his own that Gasol would be worth a draft pick in lieu of Lowry illustrates how much he's willing to stretch.

The only thing any columnist should do regarding the Lakers, is point out the ways they've messed things up and revel in it. Trying to find a way out of the mess for them is pointless.

again I still don't believe it

JoeyJoJo Shabbadu 01-25-2013 11:14 PM

Whats the most disturbing is that it implies Lowry is a dick. That's not good at all and quite frankly if its true, thats it for BC.

He asked out of Houston, Memphis traded him because he was 22yrs old and they decided to go with Conley. He was far from a finished product to say the least at that point. For us to give up on a player that is clearly more talented than Jose Calderon after 30GP and some of those him not being 100% would be unbelievably stupid to say the least. But as i said, nothing surprises me about the decisions this franchise makes. They should take the Costanza approach and want to do something then do the exact opposite. It would also be just like this team to try and trade Pylon for the last nearly 3 years and when he's finally expiring, re-sign him only then live to regret it down the road as we continue to spin our wheels.
