I thought more about this whole Jose move, and I'm just not convinced that things happened like they're telling us. First, Colangelo makes an unexpected return from Europe, then there's a meeting between Jose, Sam and Bryan (called by who?), and this move. Contrary to the popular belief, I'm not a big adept of conspiracy theories, but I can't help but think that there's more to this than meets the eye. So which one is it?

I think it is a little weird Calde told them to change the starting line up, specially thinking that Bargs was changed too. Did calde tell them to put Rasho too?

But I dont know, I dont see any conspiracy, maybe they just told calde to say he was the one that told them so people are not pissed off with Sam. lol, who knows?

I don't doubt for a second that Jose said something. Maybe I'm being naive in thinking that, but Sam is also a man of his word from what we've seen over the years. Sam said they were going to ride Jose as the starter for the remainder of this season and had Jose not approached him then I think Sam would of stayed put and worked around the issue.

Anyhow, I'm sure after the fact that BC was happier than hell to see such a gesture because like some of you and Doug Smith mentioned today, a happy, motivated and productive T.J. will be an easier and more valuable T.J. to move this summer.

but don't you think it's weird that Bryan was in that meeting? If this was Jose's idea from the beginning, why not tell Sam, why go to Bryan?

Because I'm sure Bryan pressured Sam to play Jose for the rest of the way too. Of course he'd want to be present for such a bold decision. Just look at the reaction here from fans. RealGM had 400 posts regarding the move within 5 minutes. Today's decision is almost as big as a Raptors trade. Having BC present was the right thing in my opinion.

Here's a little more info

Quote:
Calderon first broached the subject of a change a week or so ago, while Toronto was in the throes of losing five straight road games on a west-coast swing. The coaching staff initially was reluctant to make the move – primarily because Ford hadn’t done anything to earn his spot back in the starting lineup – but it came to the fore again after weekend losses to Cleveland and Denver.

“We talked about it again yesterday … and we really felt like this is going to give us the best opportunity,” said Mitchell “If we’re going to make a change, we need to do it now.

“It’s not a change for just a change, it’s a change to hopefully get us back to where we were and how we used to be.”

anyway - then how about this theory: colangelo was in that meeting today because they actually discussed Jose's future salary. It's undoubtable that Jose will take a hit from this, beyond the nobility of the gesture, his stats will take a dive, and many people will not even realize it was at his request (or choose not to believe it). So even if Jose was willing to do that, probably his agent wouldn't have been quite as willing. So maybe they've agreed in principle for a certain amount, regardless of the offers Jose will receive in free agency (assuming he doesn't receive any of higher value). Because let's face it, everybody knows we will match regardless (even if we plan on trading Jose), so why should anybody even bother to bid?

Maybe some Extra Terrestrials came and brought Jimmy Hoffa to the ACC. He told Colangelo that he would have someone firmly planted on the grassy knoll and would not return to Atlantis with the yeti and Loch Ness Monster until TJ started again?

All kidding aside, if the Raptors made a deal like that with Jose, they better hope to hell no one finds out.

I don't think it's against NBA policies, players are allowed to discuss contracts with the team, they just can't sign them. And obviously it would be only a gentleman's agreement, no legal value to it.

Here is what Calde said about it (the same that Acie posted but said for Calde):

LINK

Quote:
And it was only because of Calderon's persistence that the change – putting Ford in as the starter – was even made.

"I went to (coach Sam Mitchell) because I thought we needed to change something because something wasn't working," said Calderon, who had 13 points and four assists in 27 minutes. "I think it's a team thing, we needed something. We didn't know exactly what was the problem and we still don't know if it is this, but the good news is we won, it's good for the Raptors, good for the team and that's what we have to think all the time."

It took Calderon a couple of conversations with the coaching staff and general manager Bryan Colangelo before he convinced them the move was the right one.

"Some of them, they didn't want to agree with that, they said we have to keep doing the same thing. But after ... we thought it was the best thing for the team," he said.
I guess that what BC was doing at that reunion was to tell Calde "Don't worry, your contract is already done with the quantity you want". Although Calde was the first talking about the change, I really think BC has told him something like that (team players deserve some extra "help" from the team, and if the team show you that, you are going to think your team really wants you so why to move to other team).

I hate to say it, but it appears I was right to question this move ... Now all I want to know is who was the man behind this, bryan or sam.

Why does it matter who it was?

I'm also curious as to why Jose being asked to go to the bench hasn't been reported in the TO media?
