Default Belinelli not perfect, but a nice fit

Hi, new here...been reading this site for awhile...even back to ebsports. You guys are entertaining so thought I should finally join

Anyway, here is a link I found about Marco. This guy doesn't sound like a fan. I'm still learning this site so hopefully the link works

To hear people talk about Marco Belinelli, you'd think the Raptors had just acquired the second-coming of Vinnie (Microwave) Johnson.

Belinelli is an upgrade over Devean George, but any player who is young and has anything that remotely resembles an upside is better than the eroding veteran.

Let's face it: George's best days are behind him and Belinelli has nothing but the future to look forward.

Belinelli addresses a need because he can shoot the basketball and can beat defenders off the dribble in certain matchups.

To think this guy has the handle to run an offence is the stuff of pure fiction.

Belinelli is coming off a season in Golden State where he averaged almost as many turnovers (1.40) as he did rebounds (1.7).

He averaged about 20 minutes and close to 9.0 points, all in a losing environment.

The Raptors have coveted this guy for years because he fits the team's mould. He torched Toronto last season by going off for 23 points, but then again he wasn't alone in lighting up the defensively soft Raptors.

Belinelli posted a career-high 27 points in a loss to Atlanta by taking 21 shots, including 10 heaves from beyond the three-point arc.

His defence is suspect and his shot selection, at times, is questionable.

The kid is 23 years old and when one watches Belinelli shoot the basketball, his form is clinical. But people in this market should be more realistic and objective when it comes to his impact as a Raptor.

Thanks matresshead welcome to RF.

This guy is out to lunch. He's 23 and was on a shitty team last season and his defence from what i've heard is above average. He won't have to come in and think he has to carry his team here when he's on the floor. I maybe wrong but i think he and Derozan will flourish here.

Seams like we think everyone else's rejects will be our next all star.

It'd be nice just to make the playoffs.

I think there's a good chance he'll be a decent player for us.

BC has found diamonds in the rough before - case in point Boris Diaw

This isn't a diamond in the rough. If you looked at statements from GS fans and teammates after the deal, he's a good player and is known.

Belinelli had a worse rookie season than Roko, so put that in your pipe and smoke it.

jay triano was hired because of his high b-ball iq. he can get it done in developing players. plus, we hired francesco cuzzolin who was the strength and conditioning coach of one of the most successful italian teams ever for 12 years. he'll give him the proper workouts and diets. marc iavoroni shows him how to improve his defence and alvin williams does a bit of everything.

The truth is nothing's perfect and we can only hope that he fits in well. Maybe we all got a little too excited, but George for Belinelli is a complete steal and it deserves to be met with some form of delight. It's not like Belinelli is 29 and has consistently put up low numbers over the course of seven or so years, he's a two year veteran who needs an opportunity to develop and show what he can do. Desire does not come into question with him either, as I recall reading an article where he states that he wants to be the best shooting guard in the NBA. Now, that's not all that realistic but as long as he fights to become that, he could develop into a high quality talent and an even bigger steal than we currently consider it to be.

I think your smoking more then a pipe.

Belinelli (in 7MPG)- 3PPG/1APG (Shot 39% from 3- 40%FG)- 33GP

Roko (in 12PG) 4PPG/2APG (Shot 17% from 3- 38%FG)- 72GP

I'll take Belinelli anyday of the week over Ukic. No contest, especially when you watch the two play.

You got that right.

Roko fans remind of when Leaf fans used to say they were a Domi fan.

Later in the post, he had this to say:

MOON OVER CLEVELAND

Too bad Jamario Moon won't be suiting up as a Raptor this season.

The guy still has his flaws, but Moon's ability to defend the perimeter and his athleticism are welcome attributes. In Cleveland, Moon has found the perfect team because his talents are tailored for the Cavs' needs.

I'm not saying he didn't have some reasonable points, but I don't completely trust his judgment either

jeff, I like you rounded Roko's numbers down and Belinelli's up.

Belinelli 75GP (Career gms)- 6.2PPG-1.4APG-1.2RPG (39% from 3)

Ukic 72GP (Career gms)- 4.2PPG- 2.1APG-- 1RPG (17% from 3)

Neither has even played one full season (game wise), but looking at these stats, and watching them play...anyone that thinks Ukic will be much more then a 3rd PG is imo delusional.

Also taking into consideration that Belinelli has started 15 games in his young career and averaged 15.6PPPG/3APG, it's not even close.Ukic will either stay here and have a sore ass by Christmas or be traded, while Belinelli will likely average 20-25MPG.

stop hating ukic
he will really good if he see some playing time
it is because triano doesn't like that he didn't have the chance to prove how good he is
we got too much guard right now I hope ukic see more than 15mpg
I'm sure that if we trade him we will regret it

Roko needs to seriously work on his shot. No one is contesting that he has playing making abilities and can take it through the lane and to the hole rather effectively. It's just that his shot is bad enough to counteract all of those positives. I'd love for him to succeed, but he didn't even show very much during the Summer League from what i've read.

OMG, Ukic is horrible on most aspects of the game, he got the minutes in the summer league and played miserable like a starting, maybe bench D-league player at best, has shown no signs of improvement from last season, and if i'm not mistaken he'll be 26 in a short while. Please everyone get off his dick, he will never be a starter or backup for this club, or the NBA for that matter.

Also, why do ppl care so much about summer league, a league where most players are just jackin' up shots to pad stats to look good for a contract.

I mean Joey Graham dominated Summer League games ahead of a lot of great players. Look how he turned out.

Maybe we should wait until the real games started because last time I looked, Roko was one of the FEW players who was willing to penetrate the lane and make something happen, not just wait outside the key and let the other guys do something.
