Default BC's Golden Boy Status of the Raptors No Longer

Here's are Simmons and Feschuck's comments from over the weekend since the deal the other day.

I think Benzo will appreciated Feschuk's reference.

The Golden Boy of the Raptors is no more. Where once, every word seemed believable, now he talks in bafflegab. His post-trade conference call, following the Jermaine O'Neal-Shawn Marion deal, sounded like an exercise in creative dance, full of expression but meaning what? The simpler the question, the more complicated the answer.

Two years ago, his plan for the future was built around the acquisition of T.J. Ford. That didn't work. This season, it was built around the acquisition of O'Neal. That didn't work. And now, the plan has been altered once again.

With Chris Bosh's status in Toronto uncertain, and Colangelo talking about playing for this year with the Raptors second-last in the Eastern Conference and with interim coach Jay Triano's record only 13-25, for the first time there have to be concerns about the direction Colangelo is taking this franchise.

Until now, he has been given the benefit of the doubt on just about every decision he has made. That statute of limitations is now over.

Raptorland might as well be the new Bizarro World, the old cartoon planet where bad is good and ugly is beautiful. The GM once heralded as a saviour suddenly needs saving.

Anyone else beginning to see a few parallels with JFJ here?
-following in the footsteps of a successful father,
-Ivy league education
-a so called "plan" that never actually is revealed or adheared to,
-"bafflegab"
God I hope I'm wrong.

I'm not a fan of these two clowns but one thing is for sure: "The Emperor has no cloths".

whatever. writing off a trade before one game is played?

I kinda like the deal actually. The draft pick hurts no doubt, but i can deal with it provided the team is better with the new additions.

I still like most of what he's done including this deal. As for giving up a mid-late 1st round pick in 2010, i could honestly care less. We keep this seasons pick which is in all likely hood a lottery pick, and the pick is lottery protected until 2015.On top of that he gets 3million dollars to aquire a draft pick which nulifies giving it up anyways!

-Breaking it down for me:

O'neal for Marion + a couple of fillers. I hate taking Bank's contract, but BC can do something with that, it's not like the guy makes 10 mil per for the next 4 seasons.

I agree. Not only that, Marion will be better for this team then most here think. And as for the draft pick, we received Money in return. Either Brian buys another pick or uses it to deal away Bank's bad contract or buy him out.

JO>Marion

Moon gone

Win Win imo

I think we gave up a little much for this deal.

But if you think about it:
-Jo is going down again 100% he took up to much cap sapce anyways
-Moon was not the moon of last year. HE had a few nice flashes here and there but nothing speical.
- Banks contract suks, but its better then jo's and we can prob move/use him since he is a better player then soloman and voakhal.
-1st rounder. That was a move in desperation to get rid of JO. I dont liek trading the first rounders beucase we have no bench anymore.

This for me is BC's last shot. This off season. If next season the team is not at least .500 he will be a complete failure and his head will be called for!

Fact is, he hasnt proven shit, and he is looking really bad lately. I know some of you like to point at his success in PHX, but even the most hardcore BC fans have to admit, he never earned that title there in PHX and if you think his dad didnt have a huge hand in all dealings, then you prob think Mark Cuban doesnt have a huge hand in dealings in dallas. Hell, Jerry even more so then Mark, he really was a great exec. \

BC's "vision" changes at the drop of a hat. He said AB was a 4 or 5 year profect, but brought in a max deal guy to play the same position as him. Oh what a genius for drafting AB, then giving up on him til he goes off, then changing the direction once again. I honestly get the feel he is just making the direction as he goes along. Nobody in their right mind could think Soloman and Adams could solve our obvious lack of talent at the wing position.

The problem is too many people look at the moves GM's make in a vacuum.

Look, we got screwed a little on this trade I think but really only in terms of the pick:

1) Jamario was expiring anyways (I believe) and how many people were happy with his play? How many people wanted him resigned? He is an absolute WASTE of athletic talent. If he was doing his job we would have the perimeter D problems we have had. So BIG deal.

WE WEREN'T GOING ANYWHERE THIS YEAR. So giving up expiring guys means nothing, because someone would have overpaid for him next year and I hope it wasn't going to be us!

2) Having a lot of cap space in 2010 is an AWFUL idea, other than having enough to resign Bosh and I'll tell you why: What do you think happens to the dozens of teams that have enough cap space for a star and fail to get them? They will panic and throw way too much money at the 2nd tier stars on that list. So really, if we had JO expire in 2010, we would either get NO ONE for Bosh to play with, or we would have a brutal contract on the books that would completely handcuff us (in culmination with Bosh)

However, in 2009, you can make a splash while every other idiot is waiting for 2010.

3) The pick hurts, no arguement there.

This move can only be judged AFTER this offseason. If we come out of it with nothing, fine, BC you are an idiot.

If we come out with a good solid roster that Bosh will want to come back to. BC made the right move.

The Lord has spoken.

The best part of having backup plans on top of backup plans is when you fail like a miserable idiot, ppl will say "wait, he has a backup plan". The question is, how many backup plans need to fail, before your considered a failure yourself?? I think BC has put a ton of pressure on himself to make us good next year.

Yes he does! That's the point! You have to be an idiot to KEEP giving the guy the benefit of the doubt! Eventually you have to say "Ok I don't care that you have a back-up plan, because your last 5 didn't work"

And they aren't really back-up plans. This isn't an exact science, you just have to play around a bit to find the right formula. The question becomes whether or not he is looking for the right things.

For me, this summer is VERY important and will mean a lot in terms of my thoughts on his performance. This move is simply a move to setup other moves and should be looked at as such.

He has given something up for this opportunity, and he better make good on it. Otherwise I'll be mad!

And let me ask you, wouldn't you be a little concerned if he DIDN'T have a back-up plan?!
