Default BC will make Pops a qualifying offer

Quote:
"Pops has come in and given our team a much-needed shot of energy," said Toronto general manager Bryan Colangelo. "And what we have realised is that while Pops is by no means the complete NBA player, he is clearly someone who deserves to play at the NBA level.

"Let's just say that at this stage I am inclined to extend the qualifying offer so we are in a position to control the cards in free agency.

"That way, if Pops obtains an offer from another club, we will have the option to match it. If he gets an offer we don't have the appetite to match, then we can let him go."
Source - Basketball 24/7 | A SEASON which has been marred by injury and seen him play for no fewer than four clubs will end with the British international Pops Mensah-Bonsu being offered a permanent contract by NBA club the Toronto Raptors.

that's going to eat into our cap space (qualifying offers count), so does this mean that BC already knows what he will do this summer?

the thing here is he's kind of like a restricted free agent so we can match any offer for him so its like a 75% chance he'll be back, only way he's not is if he gets some random big money from someone and then in that case i wouldn't want him back anyways

really hope pops is back, we've needed a guy like him since humph went down. I think we can possibly deal either humph or pops before the trade deadline next year, based on how each of them play, maybe for a shooting guard if we don't pick one up in free agency...

we can probably sign pops and o'bryant (who together i think is better than having humphries) for less than you are paying humph, you can sign them both, save a bit of money (maybe as much as a million) and then trade humph, you can probably get something decent in return or put him in a package deal

Devlin calling him Big Poppy is lame and not to mention is the intellectual property of David Ortiz.

Moon has hops. He just doesn't use it as much as he did last season.

he (moon) did. early on his earlier games as a rap. if i remember correctly, he had come close to camby's consecutive blocks-per-game. and i remember he followed up a missed jumper with a sick-ass dunk in a game against the spurs. then after those i guess he got castrated and dwindled. he no longer played with intensity, never mind having basketball iq. so here, i am HOPING pops wouldn't turn out like the way moon did. i would want him to keep that intensity; wanting to attack the basket. pops should work on ball-handling and further on low-post stance in the offseason.

I love his effort and aggresive mindset, wich Moon doesnt really have, I hope this summer they teach him that getting an offensive rebound doesnt mean you have to try to dunk it every time and frecuently its a better idea to pass the ball and start over the play. How many times has he been blocked this year under the basket? Unlike Moon he's still very young. Isn't he 22 or 23? He has the time to even develop a decent jumper. He should be a keeper.

Young-er... he's 25.

Personal life
In the Ghanaian language Twi, Mensah-Bonsu's name means King (Nana) Father (Papa) Thursday Born (Yaw) Three (Mensah) Whale (Bonsu). In several interviews Mensah-Bonsu has suggested that his family earned its surname when an ancestor slew a whale.[7]

Having been born and brought up in North London, England, Mensah-Bonsu is a big fan of Tottenham Hotspur, more commonly referred to as "Spurs" in the United Kingdom.[8]
