BC On Prime Time Sports Yesterday

I didn't see it myself, but there's a link below to the FAN590 interview with Bobcat.

I've included a couple summaries courtesy of alysomji & HumbleBumbleBee from the RealGM for those who can't listen to the interview themselves.

Some interesting things mentioned by Bryan. Most importantly he mentioned that we might see more of Bargs at SF this season. :face4:

Also said he's not in the least worried about Bargnani

Bargs outside shot still a big part of his game but inside he's developing a go-to move and countermove...they are keeping it simple on the interior right now with him...he shows flashes but still has lots of work to do to mix up his game enough inside vs outside

Believes Bargs will take a big step forward in his game this season

Could start at the three or come off the bench behind JO

Believes Bargs benefitted from time with JO due to JO having tough times in his early years in the L.

Bargs :
Health played a part in his game declining
Spent 2 weeks with JO in Vegas working his tail off
Now working with the new Canadian coach that was brought in
Inside/outside game needs to be developed
Most of the time he is off balance and out of control
Working this summer on a go to move
Still getting plenty of calls on Brags from other teams
Gained weight
Needs to work on toughness…needs to learn how to not fade in games during the season
Either starting as the 3 or coming off the bench

JO, BOSH --> Talked with Sam about how he will utilize them
With the interior defense as it is now it they are not as worried with the perimeter D that comes from the 3 spot
We have great shooters everywhere you look
Moon is now able to get out and run
CB’s game now opens up more….you might see his overall numbers drop but he just cares about getting a W at the end of the game
When JO is out on the floor CB will get a lot of weak side chances
We need the right chemistry early
$1100 under tax threshold
JO is a ball stopper, CB holds the ball more
Everyone will get their opportunity (need to share the ball)
Every team has made strides (Re:Philly) LBJ is still in Cleveland, Wade is healthy, DET. Not going away.
Will NOT say we are the 2nd best team in the East
The goal is home court in the playoffs
Camp opens Sept 30 in Ottawa then back in TO on Sept 5.

He stated he can start at the three or come off the bench for BOSH or JO.I think he'll mainly be coming off the bench for Bosh.

I don't want him at the 3. I can't watch him gettiong beat on every play the opposition runs against Brags to exploit him

So by that logic, Kapono shouldnt start either........

Gurk 09-10-2008 12:19 PM

Well atleast he can keep up alittle better

Bargs shouldnt have to keep up. At 7 feet tall he should stay of and use his long arms to take away lanes and close the gap if they shoot.

depending on the matchups, I can see Bargnani defending Nocioni/Deng at the 3 for example, with much better success than Kapono.

Still, I would prefer him to play exclusively PF and C, he could get 25 minutes easily as a backup for those two positions.

This was the Best Bryan Colangelo Interview in awhile despite Jim Kelly who should be banned from trying to talk anything other than hockey cause he is clueless. You don't hear the Dino Blogger making suggestions for the Leafs New G.M do you? LOL

you cant use your arms on the perimeter. you've got to stay in front of your man and challenge on jumpshots. thats where the arms come in handy.

Obviously you cant stop the drive with your arms, but if he just keeps them extended, it will creat probles with passing, need to use feet for on ball defense.

kinda like prince or even cliff robinson with the pistons? maybe, but probably not. our team is learning the basics of defense, no need to complicate things on them now ;)

as for bargs at SF

i like the idea of him coming off the bench, but come the end of the game bosh, jo and bargs would he hella tough for teams to match-up against us. the thing is, we have to make teams adjust. having them out there alone doesn't necessarily mean teams will react. play'em, if it works, keep it.
