i never lingered on BC being around, him being around never affected Masai, if it did then Masai isn't the type of GM we want

we'll see him get a job within the next week or 2, that's the reason why the guy is stepping down

Bryan Colangelo has stepped down as president of team and business operations of the Toronto Raptors, a position he accepted this offseason.

Colangelo wasn't retained as general manager and the Raptors subsequently hired Masai Ujri.

Colangelo will remain as a consultant.

"I have concluded that stepping away from my position is the best course of action for the organization and everyone involved,” said Colangelo.

A source told Ken Berger of CBS Sports that Colangelo and MLSE CEO Tim Leiweke had been at odds.

If they were at odds then it's pretty likely that he was interfering. And that's no surprise. Better that this happened sooner rather than later.

Thank goodness. Keeping Bryan on as president sure smelled like a bad idea.

One step closer to wiping the slate clean hopefully.

I suspect that this was the plan from the beginning, so BC save his reputation. Leiweke wanted to get rid of him but was nice enough to play this little game.

Bingo - daaaa-aaaaad....I need a job. Good decision really, he had no power on the basketball side, from a spin angle this is perfect - neither side will truly lose face. Spin spin spin. All the sources can spin what they want, the more confusion and mud and rumours will just benefit both.

That's funny, I just wrote that when you did. 100% agree

Maybe a position with US NT? Or Canada NT? He's got connections. It would make sense for him to go there. Just some high position where he could overlook Bennett and Wiggins owning the next Olympics.
I don't see him getting another NBA GM job.

From what I'm hearing a) Ujiri has been making all his moves with little to no input from Colangelo, so that may be rubbing the wrong way, and b) Colangelo has a job lined up at the league office in the short term. Have seen these in tweets from media members or articles - I'll see if I can find them again.

I think I'll wait and see what happens. We rejoiced in 2006 too. I'm tired of rejoicing only to have everything turn to shit.

Dougie's article on it: Toronto Raptors president Bryan Colangelo steps down | Toronto Star

Quote:
The release said Colangelo will remain as a “consultant” to MLSE; league sources indicated within minutes of the announcement that he is destined for a job at the NBA head office in New York.
CBS Sports article: Raptors' Colangelo steps down, moves to consulting role - CBSSports.com

Quote:
A league source told CBSSports.com that Colangelo was at odds with Tim Leiweke, who was named named president and CEO of Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment in April. In his statement released by the team, Colangelo mentioned directors Larry Tanenbaum and Dale Lastman, as well as MLSE ownership, but did not mention Leiweke by name.
Can't find the source on Ujiri doing things without BC's input, though that seems pretty obvious from the moves that have been made so far.
