BC: Impressed by how prepared the coaching staff is

Quote:
Jay is a first year head coach from a standpoint of this is his first training camp, he's going in more prepared than any coach I've ever seen for a training camp in terms of the work that's been done. The strategy, the thinking, it's been so impressive to see the way the staff is working together. I feel better about this training camp and the start and preparation that's gone on than I have in a long time and I've been doing this for 14 previous seasons.

are you kidding me? what if it actually turns out colangelo was right? Wouldn't that mean a lost opportunity to bitch?

it amazes me how some people keep calling bc a liar, despite his widespread reputation as one of the classiest GMs in sport.

And all that because one year ago he made that rather benign statement (shared by a majority of people here) that with JO, it was the best Raptors team ever assembled, on paper. But that was just a projection, he didn't claim it as true.

If colangelo says that this is the most prepared coaching staff, he's either flat-out lying, or he's telling the truth. And I for one, am not even close to being prepared to call BC a liar, but I guess some people don't feel the same.

What will intrigue me is that if Jay pans out as a coach how many people will be claiming that they "backed him from the start."

It's amazong how cynical we've become as Raps fans -- we are getting the first full year of the first Canadian head coach in NBA history on the only Canadian NBA team and most people are just complaining that we didn't get Etore Messina instead.

Who backed anything this team did last year?

Actually - if you look at the point where this was an actual team on the court, it got much easier to stand the smell. And I have always been happy to see the continuation that Jay represents in terms of how he goes right back to Lenny and KO, and was a bigger part of Sam's staff. He knows how last season went off the rails and doesn't need to wonder or over-react as a result.

Him being Canadian - does that mean squat right now? Can we wait until he achieves something beyond putting in some work in the pre-season before we need to sing o canada?

BC could very well be lying to himself, or to us or simply putting a positive spin on things so far. If it's the last option then it's hardly something to complain about. That's his job. If it's the second option it's not a life and death matter. If it's the first one then there's definitely a problem, and he's still going to have to show the results here before we can really be convinced that he isn't capable of lying to himself. When it comes down to it it just doesn't matter where we put our faith - all these guys have a lot to prove starting yesterday, and it will not end until they all go fishing with fingers pointing at them to signal praise or blame.

Which makes my point that many here have sucked his balls mainly because he's Canadian. I'm not a huge Triano fan, but i'm impressed so far with what he's been saying and i'll be the first to say that he's a pretty good coach if we do well this season. Even though it has alot to do with the talent that's been brought in by BC. And Sam took a team with 9 new players 3 seasons ago to 47 wins and he was looked at as a joke here. My guess is, 45 wins this season with a more talented team then the 06-07 team, and Triano will be praised here.

I find Triano to be a supremely intellectual person and anyone that puts as much effort as him over as many years as he has done can't become anything but successful if given the talent. Steve Nash pretty much alluded to that about Triano himself. I think Triano will become a a coach who thinks outside the box and in the process will make us a very successful team. Certainly he will probably work harder at it than any other coach in the NBA.

that's something conceivable (lying to himself), but I doubt it. Everything I saw with colangelo points to the fact that he is not drinking any kool aid. I think he's shown that countless times when trading players that himself brought only a few months earlier (tj, jo, kapono).

True, at times, you MUST sugarcoat things for the media, if you're being asked a difficult question. While technically a lie, it's pretty much a job requirement. If somebody asks him "isn't it true that banks is a lazy sob", he can't possibly say yes.

But this time, he, unprompted, said something that goes beyond the usual chatter. He could have well said that triano looks like a great coach, seems very well prepared, is liked by players and management and so on. The fact the he chose something so specific, to me it's clear as day that it must be true.

However, I would lie to myself if I'd believe it makes a huge difference. If I was the rookie coach, I would prepare myself 15 hours a day this summer too. Just because he's prepared, doesn't mean he will be a great coach. Only that Sam Mitchell wasn't the hardest worker out there (which most of us knew anyway).
