BC sounds like he has the flu.

Confidence level going into the season? - coaching staff the most prepared he's ever seen in his 16 years in the league. They literally mapped out the month of October. One of the best run camps he's seen. He thinks it's going to all come together and work.

The Toronto Hoosiers.

If they started slow, then did a gradual 180 and went 2-3 rounds..... COTY.

A 180 like you're doing compared with a post in another thread where you said they would not be in any close games? I like it though, because I think there's a lot more to be hopeful about then there has been in a long time. It's easy to poke holes in the facade, but if the coaching is worth anything, there will be more than just a facade.

- Has a little anxiety thinking about what might happen this season.

- Pre-season not a good judge of where they are; new players, new system, not all key players healthy; might take a bit of time

- Made a deal last year that was a swing for the fence that entailed some risk

- Deal with Miami gave him a chance to re-shuffle the deck; combined with S&T, it opened all sorts of avenues to improve; sometimes deals don't work, but you have to have the ability to move on

- Coaching staff is more prepared than he's seen (perhaps) in all his time in the league; impressed with Jay, not just in his staffing, but also in his planning and preparing, mapping out the entire month of October; one of the best-run camps that he's seen, and he's proud of Jay; believes the staff is cohesive and the players respect Jay; not time to throw up the panic flags over a 2-6 preseason record because we haven't seen everything yet; in previous years, the team relied on one player or one deal, whereas this year they have a lot of options; in 2006-2007, the team started 2-8 and it took time for them to get going, and this year has the same feel

- Felt they were weak at the PG last year, and Ukic was not prepared for the role; Will Solomon just didn't work out; Banks has played well and worked hard, know what you get with Jack, have Belinelli to play some relief 1, and Hedo is a point-forward; feels they have much better control of the offense, and there is more confidence in whomever has the ball in their hand

- Jose's defense was really poor last year, and he knows it; he'll never be a great defender, but can be better than he was last year; more bench depth, and Wright will help defend the perimeter; Dallas didn't want to trade Wright, but it was what worked with the trade options

- POB has looked good in practice and needs to have his "on" switch engaged all the time as he has shown good upside; more depth at every position; Weems length and athleticism helps; can put out a defensive group that can pressure the other team and turn a game around if necessary

- Doesn't want to lay out a number of wins that they're targeting; wants to get to the playoffs, and advance in the playoffs; would be nice to beat 47, but 50 gives you a chance to play at home and a better chance to advance; the conference dictates that it will probably take 50 wins to have a really good shot at advancing, but doesn't want to set the bar too high; just execute their plan, with a confident group of players and a coaching staff that can do it; a lot of things can happen along the way, and though 50 is a goal, there will likely be bumps along the way and the fans will respond if the team is competitive and puts in the work

- People have been overwhelmingly responsive to the basketball team and still bought season tickets even with some bad years; Colangelo feels they raised the level of excitement, have had 2 or 3 really good years attendance wise; some felt angst after last year and some didn't renew, but it was on pace with the league average due to economics; everyone he talked to (agents, media, players) said Toronto was a great market, and there are very few that don't think Toronto is a great place to be except for maybe some kids from the deep south who just don't get crossing the border; Toronto isn't as cold as New York, Minnesota, Milwaukee; Cleveland is a horrible city until LeBron came; learning the Metric system is good for your brain, and the taxes are not really a big deal; surprisingly, European players end up paying more tax than US players and yet they still come; Colangelo just wants to put together the best possible team together no matter where they're from, what colour they are, and they just need to want to be here; anyone who doesn't want to be here will be out soon; Turkoglu made a choice based in part on market; Bosh has very few opportunities to market himself like he does in Canada; thinks CB4 is pretty comfortable in Toronto and sees there is an opportunity

- Last year was a tug-a-war between contrasting offensive styles (half-court, or run-and-gun); need to look for easy opportunities on a controlled fast break, and back the ball out if nothing is there, as opposed to walking up the court and running plays from the bench all day; need to develop offensive sets that compliment the players there; defensively, they need to protect their "house", Triano has developed a defensive system that will make-up for the lack of a lock-down defender, although they have more defenders this year than they did last year

- Feels there needs to be a happy-medium between offensive and defensive focus; still have to outscore your opponent to win; the way the game is evolving, you can compete at a very high level with an emphasis on offense; but that's not the only way Colangelo is focusing; working on defensive FG%, Triano focused on defense only in the first few meetings; the showtime Lakers sure pushed the pace offensively; feels they're not far away from the top, there are three teams ahead of them in the East

- Feels that they've given Bosh the right opportunity to succeed; hasn't offered Bosh an extension, so there's been nothing turned down; Bosh may want to know more about how competitive they'll be, and Colangelo understands that; also feels that he did not miss an opportunity to trade him earlier; in reference to Gasol trade, will not make a bad deal just to make a deal; there has been loyalty between the organization and Chris and obviously CB4 has negotiated to get flexibility, and doesn't blame him for using it; again, hasn't offered an extension; not likely to make a deal at the trade deadline, unless everything has completely fallen apart; if Chris wants to leave at the end of the season, he can handle that and will use perks of Bird Rights to facilitate the best deal for Chris and the Raptors

Toronto is much colder than NYC. Not sure who is feeding Colangelo his information, or if he's just making it up.

I think he's probably been to NY. They get some nasty wet cold nastiness coming off the Atlantic that we don't.
