BC conference call

There's a conference call (with whom, I'm not sure) from BC that the media are updating via tweets.

A few interesting tidbits here:

I'll keep updating...

Quote:

Eric Koreen ‏@ekoreen

"At 26, Kyle represents what I would characterize as the future of the position."
Quote:

Eric Koreen ‏@ekoreen

"I'm not going to tell you he was thrilled about the trade." - BC on Jose
Quote:

Eric Koreen ‏@ekoreen

Multiple inquiries about Jose's availability. "We'll continue to process things."

Quote:

Michael Grange ‏@michaelgrange

For now Jose is part of the team and we'll welcome him back, regardless of the role -- BC on Calderon #Raptors

DSWC 07-11-2012 02:38 PM

Quote:

Eric Koreen ‏@ekoreen

"Obviously our number one target in free agency was Steve Nash for a multitude of reasons." ; interest in Lowry true regardless of Nash
Quote:

Eric Koreen ‏@ekoreen

At this stage, Raps are waiting out RFA process with Fields before deciding on cap space use, amnesty clause
Quote:

Michael Grange ‏@michaelgrange

Using amnesty clause unlikely but not impossible -- BC
Lowry:
Quote:

Eric Koreen ‏@ekoreen

"We think that he's a 26-year-old guard that is definitely projecting out to get better each year he steps on the court."
Quote:

Eric Koreen ‏@ekoreen

"We feel that we've added athleticism, we've added grit, we've added mental and physical toughness and better offensive skills as well."

DSWC 07-11-2012 02:40 PM

Quote:

Eric Koreen ‏@ekoreen

Ross is "as quick as a cat.
Quote:

Michael Grange ‏@michaelgrange

Steve Nash is not only a special player but a special person. He would have meant a lot to the country but our organization -- BC
Quote:

Michael Grange ‏@michaelgrange

We can only control what we control, I applaud Steve for making a decision about family first and basketball second -- BC
Valanciunas:
Quote:

Eric Koreen ‏@ekoreen

"That future is going to pay off sooner rather than later." BC on Flying V

Playoffs:

Quote:

Eric Koreen ‏@ekoreen

"We're not promising any playoff appearance this year." But goal is competing for it.

DSWC 07-11-2012 02:42 PM

Quote:

Michael Grange ‏@michaelgrange

StepxStep we're building a championship-calibre team; not promising a playoff team, but we want to compete for a playoff spot - BC #Raptors
Interesting that he uses the word "depth" with Fields, and not starter:
Quote:

Eric Koreen ‏@ekoreen

BC acknowledges Fields was valuable for NY deal for Nash; feels Fields is very valuable for depth at 2 and 3; rebounds great
Quote:

Eric Koreen ‏@ekoreen

"I think we've got incredible depth now at the small forward position" if Fields, Kleiza and JJ are on roster
Lowry:
Quote:

Eric Koreen ‏@ekoreen

Lowry was available in different form before draft: "We said no." BC offered alternative; "They said no."
Defensive?
Quote:

Eric Koreen ‏@ekoreen

"I think I'm criticized for every contract I sign. So I just take it [with] the territory."
Quote:

Eric Koreen ‏@ekoreen

Overpay in free agency; more so in restricted free agency "We think ... there's going to be significant value" for Fields

DSWC 07-11-2012 02:44 PM

Quote:

Eric Koreen ‏@ekoreen

"The Knicks have informed me they are very interested in retaining Landry." 50/50 prop whether it gets matched, he says
Ross!
Quote:

Eric Koreen ‏@ekoreen

Casey has been raving about Ross, apparently, in Vegas
Quote:

Eric Koreen ‏@ekoreen

Cap space used with Lowry, Fields, signing of Ross, anticipated signings of Flying V and Acy. Amnesty could provide more.
Quote:

Michael Grange ‏@michaelgrange

Does #Raptors not being able to sign Nash suggest they can't attract free agents? "Not at all" -- BC #Raptors #NBA
Conference call has ended, but I'm sure a few more noteworthy quotes will roll in...

Ugh...Apparently. I've heard the WORST nicknames for him, from "Flying V", "JoVa" or "JoVal", and Big V. Can we just call him by his friggin name, please?!

Be thankful he isn't a hockey player or his nickname would be Joner

Adrian Wojnarowski ‏@WojYahooNBA

Agree with @FisolaNYDN and absolutely do not rule out Knicks matching Landry Fields offer sheet. They have a 3-year window to win now.

DSWC 07-11-2012 02:53 PM

Forgot these 2 - 2 of my favourite quotes from this

Quote:

Michael Grange ‏@michaelgrange

A lot of times guys are successful with energy and effort and we've added those kinds of pieces -- BC

I'd like to keep Fields, but i would be curious what Colangelo would do if they matched. Bet his next opition would be Pietrus.

Not a player like Brandon Rush?

Who says we could get Rush. Isn't GS keeping him now?

DSWC 07-11-2012 03:00 PM

Just listening to the audio now

BC says - regarding Lowry/Jose "Adds to our already deep position". With Jose, there will be a lot of questions and uncertainty with Jose's future... Will address those questions.

I can see BC trying to trade him for a backup PG and a SF, or just keeping him, designating him as the backup and seeing how that goes. I know it's not the popular opinion, but I'd like to keep Jose until the trade deadline, and see what's out there. Then you can either trade him, or let him expire and (potentially) sign him to a backup (including backup's salaray) and have him stick around. I think as he gets older, he'd be really good as a backup.

Maybe? Why not offer him a contract though? We'll have the space if Fields falls through.
