Bayless tendered a qualifying offer

Bayless, who becomes a restricted NBA free agent on Sunday, hasn’t wavered in his intense desire to return to the Raptors and he continues his love affair with the city.
The bookkeeping measure assures Toronto the right to match any offer Bayless gets when NBA free agency opens on Sunday.

Raptors cap space just got 4M smaller

DocHoliday99 06-29-2012 01:12 PM

Well, this just affirms to me the increasing possibility of JC leaving....if he does we need a back-up and 4 mil is decent. If we don't need Bayless he can walk if we do we keep him. Makes sense.

he can sign for less than the QO as well if he wants a longer deal.

So we have to amnesty Jose if we want to sign Nash for the $10M number that's been circulating.

LET'S GO RAPTORS!!!!! 06-29-2012 01:28 PM

Well, Jose is gone

If we end up signing Bayless we'll have about 4Mil in capspace left. You then amnesty Jose and sign Nash to say 3yrs/30mil and have his first year at around 9Mil. That gives you 5Mil (ish) to absorb some $$ in a trade for a SF.

Even more if we use the stretch provision (don't know what it's called) on LKZ

What is that?

Stretch provision is the ability to waive a player, and then spread their cap hit over twice the length, plus a year, than it would have been. Say Kleiza has 2 years left at 4.6M per. The stretch provision would allow the team to waive him, but change the cap hit. Usually, the full 4.6M would stay on the cap for the next two years. What the stretch provision does is spread the cap hit over 5 years (twice the original 2 year length, plus 1). So the 9.2M spread over 5 years is 1.84M per year.

The problem with the suggestion is that it is only applicable to players signed under the new CBA (kind of the opposite requirement as the amnesty clause), so Kleiza doesn't qualify.

Don't think that's possible

For details on how our cap space breaks down, see my update to the cap thread.

Argh. It would've been a nice ace up BC's sleeve.

we can also trade jose and waive amir, that way, if we can package davis, jose and demar or ross for a top SF and we get back equal salary, we will have about 10 million in cap space left to go after nash.

Honestly, if we get Nash, Bayless is the perfect backup PG to come in to the game when Nash rests.

I just hope we can trade Jose for something decent and not amnesty him. Its wasted value.

I couldn't care less if we amnesty Jose. Obviously if he is amnestied it's because we couldn't find a trade for him that makes sense for us. And if it gets us a player we want at a position of need it essentially a trade anyway. Even if we have to pay him anyway. It is what it is.

Of everything that's rumoured to be out there/available...Aside from the Iguodala/Gay options. What would you like to see us deal Davis/Jose for?

I would say Deng would be fair value for Jose/Ed.

Windex 06-29-2012 03:16 PM

can Portland sign and trade Batum?

i.e. Calderon/Ed for Batum
