Bayless out for remainder of the season

Wonder what this means when it comes to the Raps interest in him this offseason.

Jerryd Bayless is expected to be out remainder of the season with a partially torn left oblique muscle. #Raptors

Looks we're only one Jose Calderon injury from securing our rightful spot amongst the tank overlords. :reporter:

But I think this will hopefully drop Bayless' value in the summer so we can sign him a cheaper, team friendlier contract. I definitely want to keep him around as at least a backup going forward.

MikeToronto 03-27-2012 08:16 PM

I don't think this injury changes much, unless, of course, it is something chronic.

Bayless has already been evaluated. I am not a fan of his, but even his fans already know what he is and so does the Raps' management. If they planned on retaining him, then yes, this could drive his asking price down a bit, or, rather, prevent it from going up had he kept starting and posting decent individual numbers. That's about it.

jeffb 03-27-2012 08:19 PM

I'm torn as to whether or not i want him back. I like the way he's played when given the minutes but i'm not sure he can sustain that kind of play consistently long term.

Hopefully this means BC will go after Dragic in the offseason.

He's a good option. But if that's the case, i'd rather keep Bayless at say 3-4Mil then keep Jose at 10Mil.

Dark Knight 03-27-2012 08:47 PM

Is Dragic really that much of an improvement over Bayless? :confused2:

He is a major improvement over both Bayless and Jose. He can pass as good as Jose, shoot as good as him if not better and he can defend as good as Bayless. He would be an instant starter on this team and going forward.

Goran Dragic 16.7 PT .509 of 11.6 FG .829 of 3.5 FT .444 of 4.5 3P 3.7/1.2 RB 9.5 AS 0.2 BL 1.8 ST 3.7 TO 3.2 PF 36.8 MN 10/10 GS (last 10 games)

His craftiness on offense is amazing.

So based on 10 games, you think he's better than both Jose and Bayless?

Look, I'm basically the king of hyping up players based on short periods of time, but even I know that's a bit of a stretch. :reporter:

He hasn't gotten time before this other than the 2 game stretch this season where he put up 20/8 in 2 games vs Thunder (Home and Home). He has been amazing his whole career. No one has really giving him the time of day though, with the Suns he was behind has and with Rockets he was behind Lowry. If you watch him play you'd know he's amazing.

BballWatcher 03-27-2012 09:05 PM

I think this definitely changes his market value -- for the positive. He hasn't proven he can stay healthy with consistent minutes yet. Hopefully it's good for us, and doesn't bite us in the ass if we offer too much money.

Why? It's not like we're saying he's an all-star or better than all-star players here. Jose is a middle of the pack PG at best (15-20 out of 30 starters) and Bayless isn't a starter. Besides, this board deemed Bargnani an all-star after 10 games...talk about hype.

Dragic isn't like Bargs. He's been productive in the min he was given all his career. The prob is he never got any serious min until now.

Goran Dragic 9.4 PT .454 of 7.6 FG .776 of 2.1 FT .336 of 2.4 3P 2.3/0.7 RB 4.58 AS 0.14 BL 1.10 ST 2.12 TO 2.14 PF 23.4 MN 50/12 GS

Jerryd Bayless 11.4 PT .424 of 8.9 FG .852 of 2.8 FT .423 of 3.4 3P 2.1/0.3 RB 3.81 AS 0.13 BL 0.77 ST 1.71 TO 2.26 PF 22.7 MN 31/11 GS
