Default Is Bayless here long term?

Considering how important that position is in today's NBA, is he a long term player on this team?

He has alot of 'grit' but he's really not that polished in terms of his decision making skills for a PG. Plus, you'd argue he's a tweener.

So, is he a guy who'll be here in 2-3 years time or is he an asset that will likely be dealt.

I still say the future will be another starting PG with Bayless as the primary backup. Jose likely won't be here next season. At least i hope that's the case.

I would think he is (here longterm).

The guy is still young and as we can all see he plays at a high level already. I do agree with Claudius in being a little let down by his playmaking and his IQ out there. Of note it partucularilly pisses me off that he is usually paired up with Barbosa, and it's Barbosa most times that actually gets has ball in his hands who usually tries to do too much on his own and shouldn't be the principle ball handler on his own. anyways, back to Bayless... i like him. He's getting better and i suspect his playmaking decisions will get better too. That being said, he's already a pretty good player.

The only thing with Bayless that concerns me is that his cockiness and attitude will only allow him to be a starter after a bit I think. He won't take the backup role for much longer I think..he's too competitive. At some point we may need to just give it to him and see what happens...but that would require Jose to be hurt or traded.

i expect him to be here for awhile and i also expect Jose to be traded at the deadline
i see JB and another PG (of relatively the same age, or younger) as an interchangeable tandem moving forward

his play style is eerily similar to leandro barbosa with a little more passing and a little less scoring touch. realistically i don't think they should ever be on the court at the same time but i do think both players are best suited coming off the bench as energy guys at SG, not at PG.

I don't think Barbosa is in this team's long-term plans, and to be honest I like Bayless but I don't see him shoring up his playmaking enough to be the answer at point guard for this team. I think Bayless' future with this team is off the bench as an energy combo guard.

I believe we all see why Portland and then NO gave up on him and traded him - poor decision-making is not something teams look for in their PGs. Sure, he could improve, but if he is not showing definite improvement by the end of the season, especially being a regular backup to a PG like Jose, I don't see a point in him sticking around (pun, har-har).

He is not a shooting guard.

At the deadline? Hmmmmm, interesting. I would say this summer but it's possible someone takes Jose if they're stuck and need a PG. But who?

he's an ideal backup if in the event JC gets dealt...should stay if the price is right, he's a good player...agressive enough coming off the bench,, the real question is...can he stay motivated enough if that becomes his 'long-term-role?...

I hope he is. I still believe he can develop into a good starting 1, even if he has to play off the ball a little bit so that a better distributor can run the offence. For now, there is no doubt that he's suited to a scoring 6th man sort of role a la Barbosa, but I still believe his future is bright.

I doubt it - he has heart, but he's just not that good. Can't think of anything he does well, other than defend. However, if you suck on offense, you need to be elite defensively to justify a spot (sefalosha, bowen etc), and bayless is merely above average.

Bayless is a Legit player.

We saw what he can do if given the Chance(Detroit game).

All I hope is that he gets a chance to prove people like me, right or wrong. We need to see him start for an extended time to see how he does in those games.

I will always maintain that Bayless can be our starter moving forward....He has the Drive and the Tenacity AND the Leadership quality to be a Great PG for us. First Post and I hope others see just how Good Bayless can be.

Peace

it's going to be interesting to see what happens to Bayless with Barbosa being out of action these next few games. I really don't like that they are always on the court at the same time. I think it really takes away from Jerryd's development to tell the truth.

Leaving the obvious internal discord of the bolded sentence aside for a second, what did he show you to warrant that statement? His biggest problem seems to be the area where starting PG is supposed to excel - his decision-making. Adding to that his somewhat erratic shot, how can you possibly justify your claim?

I see him as a bench player. Similar to Crawford/Barbosa and he could fill that role nicely. He is not exactly a point guard and undersized to play SG. Coming off the bench and guarding weaker guards while being a solid threat should help his game.

If he works his ass off the next couple of years and really develop his game then it's possible he could turn into a Monta Ellis type player.

Depending on what role Bayless wants (does he want to start or is he willing to play that 6th man role?) that could decide his future.

The way he's been playing lately makes me doubt he's going anywhere, this season at least. You need an unselfish player like him when you are developing players and we haven't seen enough consistency/play from Bayless yet.
