Barnes, Lillard, Rivers on possibly playing in TDot

They'll be here next week for workouts,

Rivers:

Quote:

“It’s four through 12 where I’m ranged at, and Toronto’s right there in the middle,” said Rivers, the 6-foot-5 guard son of Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers. “They have a great city, great organization, great pieces already there: Andrea Bargnani, (DeMar) DeRozan, (Jose) Calderon. I’m very excited for that.”

“They’re straightforward guys. They’re about working hard and getting the job done,” he said. “I’m excited to go there.

“From what I heard, (Casey) is a hard working guy and he’s smart. He’s one of the coaches that’s on the rise, for sure. I got a good vibe from him (Thursday), talked to him and got to meet with him.”
Lillard:

Quote:

“You’ve got DeMar DeRozan, a good athlete, young, same age as me. You’ve got Ed Davis. They’ve got a lot of pieces on their team, and I think I’d add the ability from the point guard position to score and be a willing passer,” he said. “I think a lot of people see me as just as a scorer but I’m more than willing to get everybody else going.”
Barnes:

Quote:

“We talked about what they need and where they’re going, how potentially if I came in how I’d be a fit,” said the 6-foot-8 small forward. “They need perimeter scoring … they’re very good defensively but they obviously want to improve offensively.”

Cool, I'd love for them grab Rivers at 8.

dfunkie1 06-08-2012 09:24 PM

rivers seems to have a good grasp on our team and concept. more i see of him, the more i'm hoping he's on the top of our board.

Not sure how rivers will fit with raps, unless we ship DD out (maybe we can trade DD for #10?)

I'd like for us to pick Lillard, but he might go to Blazers at 6. Maybe Sac's #5 for #8 and Calderon? I think they need a vet and Calderon wouldn't be a bad fit for them, plus they had success with a guy like Beno Udrih

Rivers is a smart high iq player who will win over alot of teams in interviews and just the way he handles himself. I can see him shooting up the draft board in a few weeks.

Surprised Rivers knows so much about us

Probably read his dads scouting report. :p

Rivers is a tweener ballhog who plays no defence. Its like hes put everyone in this thread under a Austin Rivers love spell. He's an awful fit for this team.

Lillard

Barnes would have to fall for the raps to get him. Lillard, although solid, is only 2 years younger than JB, is being drafted in 2012 while JB was drafted in 2008. Currently Rivers is a reach at 8th and the guy is not a PG, he's a SG.

dfunkie1 06-09-2012 12:21 AM

i think rivers is a perfect fit for this team. his measurements (height/reach) prove to be fine for the off-guard spot. we currently don't have anyone who can consistently breakdown the defence and penetrate the way rivers has shown in college.

his defence wasn't great, but it definitely wasn't horrible. from the games that i watched, he was fairly active on the defensive end.

Rick Bonnell: Don't be surprised if Duke's Austin Rivers ends up a Raptor (No. 8). His interview went well with them and Toronto needs an alpha male. Twitter

Everybody jumping off of the Jeremy Lamb bandwagon need to land somewhere.

:roflmao: understatement of the last decade....

I suggested Rivers before and got lamb-asted. HAHAHAHA seriously, Lamb is alright. I've actually been more and more impressed with Lillard tbh.

Still, I'd rather go after Evans / #5 with DD/Ed/#8 and draft Barnes. Or you can take that new found #5 pick and flip that with JC for AI. Philly gets a replacement and relief and we get our defensive young vet.

This damn board has broken me and I'm kinda seeing the logic of having Nash (your Alpha Male) for 3 years or let AI be that alpha and go after Goran. Goran and/or Nash, Evans, AI, Bargs , JV - a year or 2 would be a very good and imho a winning, exciting to watch and fan's wet dream team.

And as I acknowledge other posters here with this...nothing attracts free agents more than a winning team - in comes a pg to complete the transformation - unless Goran turns out to that guy then life is awesome in TO.

As much as I love Rivers' confidence and attitude, I keep thinking Rivers = Bayless

Don Vito 06-09-2012 01:37 AM

Rivers has a good head on his shoulders, I think he would be a great fit for this team/organization. If we don't trade the pick, I'd be more than happy to get Rivers at #8.

Rivers is a natural SG. He also can't handle the ball as well as JB and has less court vision than him. Rivers reminds me (and I'm sure many others) of OJ Mayo.

JDMtors 06-09-2012 01:47 AM

Lillard hmm wouldnt he also be another combo guard, who looks for his own shot first rather than looking to create shots for his teammates.
