Considering that Fields is a rook (who probably would have won ROTY if not for Griffin) I'm not sure that it's so clear cut....

Fields is a "Battier-type player" who just does everything that his team needs in order to win. He was the highest rebounding 2 guard in the entire league. His bball IQ is extremely high given his young age.

In contrast, Bargs is a volume scorer who doesn't defend... or rebound... but can stretch the floor and provide a constant mismatch on offense.

We'd probably have to re-visit this in a few years to see where both players stand.

I couldn't see the Knicks dealing for Bargs though... that would give them arguably the worst defensive frontcourt in the NBA.

fields is gonna be a good core player. i can see him becoming a more rounded, but i don't think you'll see his game evolving much more than it already has. i'd like him, but i don't think he's a deal breaker. btw, was he injured in the playoffs? i didn't catch any of the new york games, but i remember reading that douglas was getting his minutes.

I think he just simply did not preform well in the playoffs.

The announcers were talking about how his game has dropped consistently in the playoffs.

Fields was a great find for a second round pick. He'll probably be a solid rotation player.

re: his drop off in the playoffs,
he had a limited role prior to the Melo trade, which made it easier for him. He was the 6th option on the Knicks during the first half of the year, taking fewer shots than Amare, Felton, Chandler, Gallo, and Douglas. He got a lot of open looks and teams paid little attention to him. He was asked to do a lot more after the trade and showed some signs of inconsistency before the playoffs.

The trade definitely helped to derail most of that talk though when the dynamic of the team changed.

"quite a bit"? That he would win if Griffin wasn't around? I don't think so. And even if a couple of guys say something in the first half of the season, that doesn't mean it's accurate when the season is over. You said he probably would have won, even knowing what you do about how the season unfolded. He finished behind both Wall and Cousins in voting. No, he would not have probably won. I kept my initial response brief because I don't think it's even worthy of discussion, at this point. Like I said, I agree he is a good find. However, he is no Joel Anthony.

Point taken. I actually forgot about Cousins too.

Fields could very well be a perimeter-based version of Joel Anthony in the near-future.

Already said what I think about Fields.
His numbers dropped after Carmelo trade. He is great team player, but Carmelo and Billups came and started their chuck fest bonehead game. Fields averaged 4 shot attempts in playoffs...

I'm inclined to look at the rosters of teams that are top 10, but in decline or failing. Lakers, Orlando, Spurs, They are likely to make a move to hang on, maybe even a foolish move.
Also, I'm not sure how much longer Boston is going to be at that level, so I'd probably say #3, if only it could be tweaked to move Kleiza for another need.
I do like the options that come with a pick, but some seem unrealistic.

Bargs for the #1 pick would be a nice move. Any of the other deals I find ice cold, especially the one for Jeff Green. Jeff Green!?!? Trade a 21ppg 7 footer for a 15ppg SF/PF tweener?!?!?

15ppg on 5 less shots per game then bargnani, yes. And Bargnani is 7 foot but you wouldn't know it by his play.

15 ppg on 5 fewer shots is worse actually. Bargnani had a higher ts% and he was pretty much the only scoring threat here, so teams were gunning for him. Andrea had to create most of his shots , while green can't create shit. The only advantage green has is his defense, and he's not that good at that either.

Bargnani creating his own shots? Since when? Dudes not very creative to say the least. Well unless you count those robotic jab steps, or his usual camping out 25ft from the rim of course.

Of course he creates his own shots. He has one of the deadliest pump fakes in the NBA.

Dude

Now your complaining about his offence?

Let's stick to judgeing him by his horrible D.. I'm fine with the Offensive numbers he's putting up at 10 mill a year...

bargs provides so many things to complain about, it never ends really....
if he is still on our team next season (God please no), i can't wait for him to prove his own supporters wrong. wonder what they will say then....probably more new excuses

I don't want to pick on you, but you're the last quote here, but it's a sentiment that I've addressed time and time again.

IF Bargs has played that poorly then WHY are we going to sell low on an asset that is STILL young?

We gotta be patient. I'd trade Bargs if he's having a decent start to the season and we're still struggling (because face it, we will) and we can move him for an asset we need.

Right now, we'd be dumb to sell this low.

Not necessarily complaining about his offense, just disagreeing that he creates his own shots. The guy is often spoon fed shots 20-25ft out.
