Hmmm.... just saw a little blurb about this on "Hoopshype" (so take it with a grain of salt). Haven't heard THIS rumour yet so I thought it might be worth mentioning....

Frankly, I don't know how to feel about that. Howard can score, rebound and defend but with the way Bargs has been playing of late I'm loathe to trade him for a guy who's had problems with consistency in the past. Plus Howard doesn't strike me as a great "off the dribble" playmaker.

I'd probably pull the trigger if it were JO instead.

Say wha'? Interesting - haven't heard anything about Dallas looking to trade Howard.

Off topic - what are you doing up so early? Go to bed.

JO is a lot more likely since they need a C (improvement over Dampier) plus he gives them another $20 in cap space in 2010. I expect the Mavs to get a big player in free agency to play along side Dirk.

Raptors get:
Josh Howard
DeSagana Diop
Antoine Wright

Mavs get:
Andrea Bargnani
Anthony Parker

these are the principles of trade because the salaries don't match

Theres only 2 trades that work cap wise:

JO for Howard/Dampier
Bargs and Parker for Howard

Both Howard and Dampier expire the offseason after 2010 which doesnt really matter to us because I dont think we'll be players in 2010 anyway and it wont affect signing Bosh for whatever he wants because we own his bird rights.

Personally I'd rather the JO deal because it'll improve our defence 4x what it is now, and IMO Bosh will play better with a center that doesnt need the ball at all thatll have his back, all the great stars do(Duncan with Nazr/Rasho, Dirk with Diop/Damp, KG with Perk etc.)

This way we can keep Parker and our depth improves with Bargnani getting a lot more minutes off the bench since Damps is likely only to play 24 mpg.

Jose, Ukic
Parker, Kaps
Howard, Graham
Bosh, Humps/Bargs
Damp, Bargs

Now thats a team, especially if Bargs continues to play well off the bench.

Who gives a shit about Howard off court problems, let him smoke all the weed he wants as long as he keeps avging 18 ppg on 45% from the field with good rebounding/defending.

Dampier's contract goes until 2011, $33 mil for 3 years remaining.

I don't like his contract

Howard has the same money promised in his contract but he has a player option of $12 mil in 2010/11

I think if it happens it will be

Bargs + Parker for Howard

Nowitzki would be the SF, Bargs PF

you mean Indiana

"O'Neal doesn't have a problem with Carlisle, but he is far from a fan. When Jim O'Brien replaced Carlisle at Indiana, O'Neal was very public how he liked O'Brien's offense more than Carlisle's (even though his production went down). O'Neal also found Carlisle aloof, a common criticism of Carlisle. All told, Carlisle here isn't going to make O'Neal enthusiastic about joining the team, although it isn't a deal breaker either. Carlisle used O'Neal very effectively in Indiana, and it is quite possible that Carlisle would be enthusiastic about such a trade."

I don't want this trade to go through. Trade O'neal. If BC is willing to takeon Damps contract then do it

Strictly speaking, deals aside i'd rather have Howard than Bargnani(since that's the real question here). I agree Thriller's JO deal is probably the better one of the two though.

Andrea Stats:

PPG 11.1
RPG 4.5
APG 1.0
SPG 0.4
BPG 1.3
FG% 0.424
FT% 0.868
3P% 0.393
MPG 27.1

Josh's stats:

PPG 18.2
RPG 5.2
APG 1.7
SPG 0.7
BPG 0.6
FG% 0.443
FT% 0.744
3P% 0.353
MPG 32.7

I would say Andrea's stats are more promising specially if he can became consistent and play as of lately. Andrea is still developing and he is a big, extra 3 inches and 30 lbs over Josh ... I am extremely happy with Andrea development at this time, even though he is stricky on offense, he is quite consistent on defense doing little things that doesn't show on stats: boxing out, screens, pushing around other big players etc

I would like a trade with Dallas only if JO is involved not Andrea (unless they want to send Dirk over here LOL). I would deal Andrea only for a young promising SF/SG with a lot of potential. If we trade Andrea and things doesn't work out, Bosh going somewhere else and JO put of books by 2010, we are left only with Jose Calderon and a lot of cap space by 2010, not a very attractive situation to convince big names signing us, maybe overrated "stars" looking for lucrative contracts only.

A good trade for all involved would be:

Howard, Stackhouse and Diop to TO

JO and Moon to Houston

TMac & Chuck Hayes to Dallas

Could a trade work out any better for all teams involved?

Cuban loves big name guys

Houston gets a Filthy frontcourt

We get a few slashers and a Solid Big man

So now everyone wants to keep Bargs?
A few months ago you wanted his butt shipped out of Toronto

I rather have JHo than bargs.

If the trade goes through

Our team will look like this:

PG: Calderon/Soloman/Ukic
SG: Kapono/Wright/Adams
SF: Howard/Moon/Graham
PF: Bosh/Hump/Voshkul
C: O'neal/Diop/Jawai

We get a Slasher. a Defensive Big, and a back shooting Guard in this trade.
Howard will make Calderon looks like an All-star.
With Bosh and O'neal, howard can cut to the rim with ease.

If anyone of you watch Mavs, then you should know that when Dirk gets double his past either to Terry for 3 or to the cutting Howard.

Howard, can REBOUND, he hustle for loose ball.

And Diop, this guy might have a big contract, but during the play-offs against spurs he was big. This guy can Block, and guard Big man.
Imagine Him with Bosh or O'neal on the floor, heck, even with Hump, Him and Hump will be battling for Boards.

So if we make this trade, we actually cover some of our weakness.
The problem is that our SG depth.

Edit: If some how we can get to replace wright with Barea then
Im all up for this trade. Barea has been awesome for the Mavs

The Mavs won't make this trade because they're not looking to the future. They have Kidd who probably doesn't have the time to wait for Bargs' potential. The trade would be a step down for them and they'd have no reason to do it.

Actually they do.
With Dirk and Bargs playing at the same time, they have a 2 7'0 that can shoot 3's or drive.

This makes Kidd job easier. Remember, Carlisle is an idiot. He makes Kidd, do all the work. He can Drive a kick to either one of them. If they miss, Kidd or Bargs/Dirk can rebound. Heck It'll even give Terry chance to jack more shots up.

And Don't forget Parker, he can benefit from playing Kidd.

Bargs will grow playing with Kidd and Dirk. Kidd is a playmaker, and a veteran leader on the floor. Dirk can show Bargs, how to use his Jumpshot Effectively.

You have to look at it of the Mavs side part of the deal. With 2 7'0 that can shoot, Jason Kidd, and practically the best bench in the NBA, this will be Dangerous.

A deal is reportedly being discussed between the Raptors and Mavericks that involves Josh Howard landing in Toronto for Andrea Bargnani and Anthony Parker.

Toronto has been looking for a small forward, and the discussed deal could involve other players -- perhaps DeSagana Diop and Antoine Wright -- as well.

HoopsWorld first reported the story.
