Bargniani's regression.
He was better last year.

Benzo 03-22-2008 11:16 AM

and before some of you just say Bargs is a bust...

thats not the discussion...I just want to know why he was better last year.

rapsfan087 03-22-2008 11:38 AM

Our team played better, so the players were better ...

I don't believe he was better, maybe he didn't try to do what he is trying to do now (play the center spot)

INSIDER 03-22-2008 11:42 AM

maybe, just maybe, he really isnt that good.
he had all these high hopes, but it could just be that he isnt good enough to be a legitimate star in this league. sorry.

Bargs is a better player today then he was last year.Numbers don't always tell the story. Last year Bargs played his game, the game that the raptors staff saw when they were scouting him. They did not seek any change to his game last year. During the summer the transformation started by trying to beef him up make him bigger and stronger. I still believe that Bargs is still learning to play with his large body. The strength training programing could have altered his shot.Add on the fact that the team is trying to teach him how to play a differant position in the NBA.Majority of players would struggle learning a new position in the NBA. Actually how many players are asked to play a differant position from the position they were drafted. You got to give Bargs some slack, the raptors are asking him to be a differant player. I am not sure whether we are doing the right thing however its still premature to write him off.

thanks tips....

I just want to know why he is playing worse than last year.

Kuzzy 03-22-2008 11:47 AM

bullshit man
he can be a star but hes playing center
he can be that 1 level below dirk just like how bosh is a level below KG
if he doesnt show up next year... then we can speak of this bust word.

Raptorman 03-22-2008 11:49 AM

Way to early to write him off

If he is still clanging this time next year, I'll be ready to concede.

its all in his head.
he thinks he's supposed to be good, he got all these praise...
but maybe he isnt.
he tries things that he probably shouldnt be trying.

i'm not saying he's a bust, just saying i think he thinks he's better than he is. and it looks like you all think that way too.

Nah Insider, hes shown the flashes of brilliance of being a very good player. The problem is consistancy and putting him in a position to do it everygame. There isnt one big guy in this league you can put on the 3 pt line and expect good offence from him everygame. Its blatantly obvious that when he starts within the 3 pt line at around the 18 foot area hes 10x more dangerous than when hes 24 feet out, it gives him more options and its easier for him to get to the bucket with just 1 dribble rather than multiple dribbles where hes then out of control. And when he plays good offence, he stays in the g ame and thus has better games. Even if hes playing well on D, if he isnt hitting his shats Sam isnt gonna play him more than 20 mins, that never helps either.

Consistancy and touches, thats what the Bargs man needs.

Acie 03-22-2008 12:35 PM

The way I see it is he's not always putting forth the effort neccesary and you don't reward a guy like that with playing time. He's also still young, still finding his way, so patience is of the essence with him. And yeah Smitch, blah, blah... IIRC even the Italian National Team coach wasn't pleased with his effort.

The MVP of West Hollywood 03-22-2008 01:51 PM

I think he's improved more than his stats show. He seems to be getting half his points from driving nowadays, and his defense has gotten better. Whereas last year except for the playoffs he was pretty much a 7 foot Kapono. Granted last year his shot was seemingly a lot better than it is now, but I think it'll come with confidence. He's also had a lot more big games this year than last... agian, confidence.

But I still think his fate might be a 13-15ppg bench player who can go off for 20+ on given nights, while our starting center is a more traditional big man who can guard the paint and kill the boards. He could still get 25-30 minutes a game if he plays PF during Bosh's 12 minutes off and relief C 15 minutes for the other guy, or something like that.

pimpery 03-22-2008 03:42 PM

his "flashes of brilliance" are what? when his 3 is falling... thats it. Last year it was falling more, this year it isnt, to think a guy is gonna be a legit superstar but just shooting 3s is a mistake, hopefully he can improve his inside game, but im not as optimistic as others.

moremilk 03-22-2008 10:20 PM

how about several 6 assists+ games, I think he has more 6+ assists game this season than Bosh had in his whole career ... And you are right that most of his good games come when his 3pt shot is falling, but that's for several reasons:

1. the defense plays him tighter, which allows for driving and more creativity
2. his confidence is higher
3. sam will keep him in the game for longer stretches
