Default Bargnani's Interview with SLAM Magazine

From the NBA Live '09 Camp.

SLAM: Thatís a cool gift.

AB: Yeah, it was very cool. Everyone on the team has got a PS3.

SLAM: What are your favorite games?

AB: (pauses, looks around) NBA Live. (Laughs a bit)

SLAM: Thatís a good answer at this event.

AB: (Laughs a bit more)

SLAM: What other kinds of games do you play?

AB: I like shooting games. We play on the internet, itís fun.

SLAM: Were you surprised that Josh Childress left to go playó

AB: No.

SLAM: I havenít even got the question out yet and youíre saying no. Youíre not surprised then?

AB: No, because weíre talking about money. To play in NBA, youíve got an average salary, four or five million. And Europe itís much more. Thereís no tax, and youíve got houses, cars. Itís a good opportunity.

SLAM: Do you think when your contract is up that European teams would ever make a move to get you back to Europe?

AB: (kind of looks at me like Iím dumb) I donít know, I have no idea. I like playing in the NBA. But if they keep going like this more players will go over there for sure.

SLAM: With Jermaine OíNeal coming in, do you want to play more of the three next year?

AB: Weíll see what the team needs. Maybe some three, some four or five.

SLAM: What would you rather play?

Bargnani: Four is my natural position.

SLAM: Do you have goals set for next year?

AB: We definitely have to try to go to the playoffs and try to advance in the playoffs. I think thatís the main goal of the organization. Weíve made the playoffs two years in a row, but we always get sent home early. This year was very sad, the end of the season was sad. We didnít play like we usually do. We have to come back next year and play better.

Whenever I read about Bargnani in the Toronto papers, thereís always something in there about the Italian media that follows him around. This day was no different, as three different people from Italian media outlets had made the trip over to see their boy. All three guys were friendly. I should take this time to shout out Paul from Italyís Sky Sports, who sits through 45 minutes of futbol news before basketball makes its way onto the highlights, much like I have to do with hockey in Canada.

Bargnani finished up his interviews and went for the body scan. Rudy Gay took his spot, so I went to him next.

BC gave the whole team PS3s

I wonder how it feels if your in the NBA and you're playing NBA Live and your player sucks. How would that feel?

I like the fact that when he was asked about his goals for next season he mentioned the team, not his own stats.

I like that too, but I still think he should worry more about his stats than the team. We all know that we need this guy to step it up. And we've talked about this so many times.

BTW, my favourite part in the interview:

AB: No.

he should be worried about his own stats opposed to the team?

are you serious? go cheer to the knicks, dude.

yes, we need him to step it up as in a matter of constantly playing focused. we don't need him to score 20 points a game, we need him to play smart offensively while having him use his talent appropriately. we don't need him to grab ten boards a game, we need him to box-out and prevent teams from beating us on the boards.....

Stats don't mean shit, winning does.

you seriously don't understand how much people and stats talk pisses me off. fucking box-score whores

Where is the Ps3's for the poor fans and bloggers that support the team? Who is with me? By sounds of this interview I would not be shocked if Andrea doesn't bolt for Europe and that increases if he does not improve.

I think it's entirely about whether he improves or not. If he proves he has a place in the NBA he will stay here. He didn't come here just to leave. But if he can't find a good comfort level here, then yeah he's likely to go back to where he had that comfort level. And like he says indirectly - the money will be different for him if he can't prove to be above average.

Come on.

Bargs needs to worry about his stats a little more than the teams stats.

This is totally baffling. You're serious?

He needs to be worried about helping the team, whether that's statistically or otherwise.

W's come before individual stats...you learn that at age 5.

I agree with Swag, I don't really care what his numbers are as long as his minutes on the floor are effective and not detremental to the TEAM. the only time he pisses me off is when he's jackin 3's with 20sec's on the shot, or when he picks up 3 cheap fouls and sits for most of the game. If he can mix in some more drives, box out and learn to consistently be able to stay on the floor the boards, the stats you are worried about (Major) will take care of themselves.

Also, I think being a 6th man type of player and not a starter is going to help him stay on the floor more and his spot in the offense. I think in Europe he was used to being more of the focal point, and over here the past few years he has been more of a 3rd option in our offense most of the time, making it hard for him to stay within the offense. Although it is hard to accept out of a number 1 overall pick.....IMO, coming off the bench and replacing Bosh, instead of pairing with him will make him more of the focal point in the O, and bring him back to his more productive and natural role.

Talking

funny interview.

I think Andrea will have a good year next season. He can play without compression of the media and can use the addition of JO very well. I thnik - Iīm sure we will see the best andrea.

Also he can give some indication for a contract extension. With his passing, shooting and ability to run the florr he can help us tremendous.

Have a great night guys

Bye
