Bargnani will not play for Italy this summer

Andrea Bargnani has announced he will NOT play for the Italian national team this summer.
This would appear to be great news.

Apparently he wants to work with Alex McKechnie and put the calf injury behind him and get ready for next season. :clapping:

Anyone here that can translate?

Smart move, though not something what Italian fans would like to hear I imagine.

Let's say Bargs pulled a "Steve Nash" for Italy.

Belinelli plays a bigger role on the team.
every game I watch Bargs on Italy he doesn't look good. not being used right or something.

You'd think with Bargs, Belinelli, and Gallo they'd do better.

well played.

He applied for Canadian citizenship, didn't he? Maybe his application has already been processed and the Italian NT probably advised him to withdraw from the team to prevent any issues with FIBA. I don't know if Italy recognized the dual citizenship, cuz in other countries (like Japan), once you're a naturalized citizen of another country, it will automatically renounced your native-born citizenship, therefore, Andrea will be ineligible to play for Italy if that's the case.

you can be a dual citizen and hold an Italian passport.

He's already played for Italy and I think, not sure, that once you represent a country you can't switch to another.

That's how it is for soccer/football.

EggsToTheBBQ 06-04-2012 03:19 PM

Good news!

I think that it's in the best interest of most NBA players (especially NBA starters) to limit their time on their national teams.

It would be nice if the NBA allowed time for players to represent their countries, but that's not the case at this point.

once you play for the senior team you can't switch. thats how it is in most international competitions. but gaining a canadian citizenship doesn't affect his ability to play for Italy

I know. I was meaning regardless of where he goes and what citizenship, he has played for and can only play for Italy - at least that's I think.

Don Vito 06-04-2012 03:38 PM

Good, less chance of him getting injured.

It just says Gentile and Bargnani aren't playing for Italy: Gentile is about to go under the knife, Bargnani due to the injuries and he's afraid of another relapse. Even Belinelli is about to say no to his national team so Pianigiani (Head Coach of Italy) is going to build the team around Gallinari, the only star player available for Italy.

this is good. NO?

dfunkie1 06-04-2012 05:19 PM

for raptor fans, yes

is jose still part of the spanish national team? i really hope he says no. there's no way he'll be able to last next season if he does. he's so tender.
