Bargnani The Reason CV Was Traded?

Hmm .... don't really know about that. We needed a PG and at that point Charlie was really our only asset. But, interesting read nevertheless and nice to hear about another ex-Raptor that misses Toronto. :)

From KABOSH from the RealGM:

I was dissapointed by his physique because you could tell his wasnt taking care of his body.

But my favourite part of the evening was meeting Charlie V's brother, Rob. He was a very nice guy and was willing to talk. He told charlie in LA right now working for the upcoming season and he finally feels healthy. He told me Charlie was very upset when he left Toronto. He even asked me " Do you like Andrea?" i answered " I still believe he'll turn into something special". He responded " Well, he is the reason Charlie got traded". He told me that Charlie was traded because Andrea was brought in , another big man. He told me that Charlie was dissapointed when he heard he was traded because Colangelo himself had told him that he wouldnt be traded and weeks later, Charlie heard from the radio that he was traded. Colangelo didn't even bothering telling him he was being traded, he had to find out from the radio. He also told me that charlie just had his first baby, born in Toronto. He said that Charlie loves Toronto and hopes to be back but the situation the Raptors are on there is no room for him.

All in all, this made me remember what a nice guy Charlie was and that he wasn't treated right by Colangelo. His brother was very cool and very interesting to talk to.

He was traded because Jose was not seen as a huge asset at the time and BC said he wanted to start building the team around a top PG.Colangelo didn't know we were going to get the #1 Pick even if he had Bargnani in mind for the draft.

Kirby 07-27-2008 06:51 PM

The thing is that Roy went 6th. We didn't know he was going to be that good.
We could've drafted either Roy or Foye and kept CV.
Colangelo did want a good TOP point guard and CV was our only asset at the time other than Bosh..

Claudius 07-27-2008 06:58 PM

Let's still wait until we crown Roy the best player from that draft. Everyone knew he was the most NBA ready player and Foye hasn't been healthy the past two years.

First of all, the dude from Real GM misspelled the name of the area. It's 'Flemingdon' Park, not 'Flemington' Park. Secondly, Magloire doesn't live in the area. Why would he live in one of the city's most run-down neighbourhoods?

Thirdly, if Bargnani wouldn't have been the guy, it would have been Rudy Gay. They were the only 2 people out of the high draft selections who was given a clean bill of health - everyone else had some sort of injury that was red-flagged.

Lastly, no one knew Calderon would have emerged the way he did. He was coming off an injury riddled rookie season where he showed flashes of brillance, but nothing near the kind of player he is today. The trade for Ford was essentially a good one. Charlie is a talent, but he needs to learn how to put up consistent efforts.

When he has been hes shown that hes a ballhog and not a good passing PG. Foye is just another one of the shooting PG's thatll never win anything in the league. On draftday I was thinking to myself, wow Mchale finally did something right drafting Roy, then I go back to nba.com a little later and he traded him for Foye of all players. Its amazing he still has a job.

The only one with the potential of catching Roy is Andrea really. Gay is a nice player but he strikes me as the RJ type, he scores quietly and you dont really need to gear your D to stop him like some other imposing ISO type players, and Aldridge is very good but he isnt a guy you can GO TO for points IMO.

I think we were probably looking to shop him, but drafting Bargs kind of confirmed that he would be gone. We weren't going to build our team with our 3 biggest projects being PFs, yeah freakin right. I had anxiety over just a Bosh + Bargs combination on draft day, and I feel even worse about it now. We aren't winning a championship with Bargs as our starting C, even if he turns into a 20ppg scorer... the combination with Bosh is just too weak defensively inside. My biggest hope is that Bargnani looks awesome this year and then we trade him at the trade deadline or in the summer for a 20ppg veteran SG.

Roy..Is a shooting guard. What's Kobe supposed to do? Let Odom take the last shot?
Who else on the TrailBlazers has allstar potential and can take a game over like Roy?
Aldridge? Outlaw? BLAKE?
He also dished out his fair share of assists equivalent to 5/6 a game..

colangelo made the right move by drafting bargs. These others guys are almost as good as they are going to get. Plus we traded for ford because we wanted to have a phoenix style offence. He would have fit perfectly, hes quick and WAS willing to dish the ball. Then he became somewhat of a hog. That would have been nice if we had a fast tempo game with a 7 footer that can knock down 3's.

Acie 07-27-2008 11:08 PM

Woulda, coulda, shoulda...

Major 07-27-2008 11:43 PM

I never really liked the idea of CV being traded in the first place, even if he wasn't starting at that time he could have been solid for us off the bench. I hope he's brought back in TO later down the road.

Acie 07-27-2008 11:54 PM

CV's lazy and unmotivated.

No thanks.

Kirby 07-28-2008 12:28 AM

Everyone has flaws.

Claudius 07-28-2008 12:35 AM

Yeah, but flash, those are pretty big flaws that can't be corrected through simple drill training but more psychological training which is much harder to accomplish.

Acie 07-28-2008 12:38 AM

CV = Derrick Coleman vii

Kirby 07-28-2008 12:42 AM

Yeah..Just some with bigger flaws than others I understand.

Superjudge 07-28-2008 10:01 AM

Thriller.

Would drafting Richard Jefferson be a bad idea?

LX 07-28-2008 10:46 AM

The idea that Charlie wasn't treated right by Colangelo is laughable. The sense of entitlement that a guy can have, coming off a rookie season on a shitty team, is just stupid. It's nice that he likes Toronto. But so does JO.

it is, if you can draft nowitzki instead ...

Adequate Swag 07-28-2008 12:47 PM

CV was traded because Colangelo recognized that he was going to be overvalued coming off a solid rookie season.

He wasn't as good as his rookie numbers indicated, and showed less growth potential than most due to the lack of motivation and the laziness previously discussed. Plus he played an already strong position.

So BC flipped him when his value was the highest for a position of need. Simple as that. He would've made the same move regardless of who the draft pick was going to be, given that there were no can't miss point guards in that class.
