Bargnani: "I have to do better this season."

No shit Sherlock.

I really like Toronto, so my goal would be staying more 'as possible and try to enter the heart of fans'

I don't get everybody ripping this guy as much as he gets ripped. He had a very good rookie season, last season he regressed big time but i think there were alot of reasons for that.I believe that he'll have a bounce back season. If he doesn't,then i'll certainly rip into him.But i'm not going to be so pessimistic about a 22 year old after one bad season.

Hoopsworld's got him as a leading candidate to take home the Most Improved Player Award this season, along with Devin Harris and Tyrus Thomas. I'm surprised, Raptors don't usually sit high in they're rankings for anything. They still spelt his name wrong tho.

Most Improved Player

Andrei Bargnani, Toronto Raptors
The former number one overall pick of the 2006 NBA draft is quickly approaching bust status. Thanks to the arrival of Jermaine O'Neal though Bargnani has a chance to avoid Kwame Brown and Michael Olowokandi status for at least another season. The plan is to move Bargnani to the small forward, where he will be allowed to spot up and take advantage of mismatches while Chris Bosh and O'Neal handle the dirty work inside. If Bargnani doesn't thrive in this situation, it's time to stick the bust label on him.

canada_rocks2369 09-12-2008 05:47 PM

I like Bargnani best as a PF but we're kinda set there with CB4. I could see him backing up all 3 frontcourt positions this year, he plays the same on offense whether we use him as a SF or a centre anyway. This way he still gets a ton of minutes to develop but usually against backups so his confidence will be high. Plus if he's playing against backup small forwards with JO and Bosh behind him he might not be such a liability on defense. He'll never shut anyone down but he is 7ft tall with decent quicks, he should be able to back off his man a bit and still contest shots but that doesn't always happen with him so I don't know. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I don't like the idea of Bargs playing at SF. I still see him getting mainly all the minutes behind JO and CB4

I'm not too high on it either but it might not be so bad in stretches. Bargs did grow up playing SF in Europe and that is his natural skill-set. Plus he creates matchup problems being 7ft tall. Obviously defense is where he'll struggle but hopefully they wouldn't be expecting him to guard anyone really good. If he's playing against backups, especially spot-up shooters or guys in for their defense, then he might be able to handle it. It wouldn't work for too long but anyone bad enough for Andrea to guard at small forward wouldn't be in the game for very long anyway:haha:. And he's got CB4 and JO to help him if he gets beat so it's less of an issue than in the past. It's an interesting idea with O'Neal now in the lineup to help and if it helps Bargnani develop faster then I'm all for it. If not it's not really that big of a risk, just a couple minutes a game to see if it's working out or not. I'm definitely against starting him at the 3 as Colangelo mentioned recently and I really don't believe that that is what is going to happen unless we see a completely different Andrea this year. You never know though...
I see him getting 12-15 mins backing up JO, 10-12 behind CB4, and maybe 5 or so at small forward, giving him around 30 mins a night. Almost starter minutes without starter pressure - perfect for Andrea.

if Andreea gets any significant time at SF, his season will be a failure and a dissapointment. It will pretty much mean that the raptor's leadership has given up on him, and is basically trying to raise his trade value (since it's likely that at SF he will post better offensive stats, which will make him look good).

I'm very certain that it's not going to be the case - and I'm hoping for him to become a leading candidate for both MIP and 6th man awards

Sam definitely didn't help with his quick hooks after early foul trouble but when he gave up offensive rebounds and didn't bother fighting for positioning in the first quarter, a coach's hand is forced.

Sam's early subs because of fouls were totally pointless, how many games did Andrea end up fouling out of last year? I think maybe 1 or 2. What was he "saving" him for? I would've liked to see Sam stick him in there until he picked up all his fouls in the first half and then went to the bench in deep thought.

not gonna even go into this one, gl bargs.
