The Bargnani hate is excessive and a little embarrassing

I know that Bargs isn't the perfect player and he obviously has holes in his game. I get that and I'm not disputing it. What I don't understand is how the fanbase can fixate so much on his shortcomings while completely ignoring the stuff he's actually good at? It's gotten to the point where some people are so blinded by the hate that they won't even give the guy credit when he does well.

Case in point... his performance this summer was stellar. His team didn't do that well but as an individual and a leader on the Italian National Team he played about as well as you could hope. He's still not an amazing rebounder or help defender but in this particular tournament he improved in both those categories while sustaining his offensive game. Statistically speaking he was probably one of the best players in that round of the tournament and he demonstrated flashes of brilliance. Obviously the level of competition wasn't as high as the NBA but come on guys... he's still a member of our team and he played well.

As far as last season goes... do you guys honestly think that the Raps would have done much better as a team if we had Bosh in Bargs' place? I think we would of sucked either way so it's not fair to blame everything on one guy. I don't care if we keep him or trade him as long as we get better as a team but as long as he's a member of the Raps and one of the better players (if not the best player we got) then let's not get carried away with the hate.

ValanciunasFanboy 09-13-2011 06:23 PM

Yes, I think Raps would have done much better with Bosh instead of Bargs, but yes, I think they would've sucked either way.

Personally, I feel a bit bummed out for Bargs. I wish he was on Orlando. He'd be good there, and Stan VG system and DH would be great for him. He may even be worth his money there.

His play in the summer is always stellar, so is Bellineli's. Point?

Besides, there hasn't been much Bargnani hate around here lately anyway.

hitman67 09-13-2011 06:37 PM

I'm not talking about these forums as much as I'm referring to Rap fans in general. I actually like these forums cause it's obvious the people that post here are more mature than other forums (like RealGM).

I just wish we were a more supportive fanbase when it comes to sports because I honestly feel like the negativity of the fans can influence the success of the team.

I agree! Should have posted a poll.

Bargnani will never be a good rebounder or defender... GET OVER IT! He's great offensively.

Dark Knight 09-13-2011 06:50 PM

But he doesn't rebound! :police:

above average, maybe great at doing the stuff a guy half a foot shorter does

Until this team can develop someone better, the best player on this team is Andrea Bargnani. Think about that for a moment...... heck, most playoff teams have 2 guys making more than his 9M too.

Guy definitely is getting too much hate.

LX 09-13-2011 08:22 PM

there's really not that much hate around here. boredom - yep.

By stuff.....you mean shooting 35% from 3. Ok!

Look,.... offensively there's no denying he's got talent. But a fan base of a team that slags this 7 footer for not player better defensively and rebounding shouldn't be told not to.

Fact is, at least for me the biggest problem with this guy is lack of desire and effort to improve in the things that don't come easily to him. If he gave full effort in improving on D + rebounding and still came up short, well then you just have to say at least he's out there giving his all and TRYING to improve. But the frustrating thing is, he doesn't. Anyway, let's not get into this again, we all know the same complaints about Bargnani.

He's a good offensive player, at times very impressive in that aspect. We'll leave it at that.

hitman67 09-13-2011 08:56 PM

how can you possibly gauge how much effort he puts in? let's say he could rebound but couldn't shoot to save his life... would you assume that his shot wasn't falling because he doesn't have the work ethic to make it fall?

All I'm saying is that your opinion is an observation and there's no way to tell how much a person is actually trying.

My opinion is an observation? No shit!

hitman67 09-13-2011 09:15 PM

If you know it's an observation and that it's just your opinion then you might want to refrain from saying things like "Fact is"

The only certain thing here is, at least I think so, that we will definitely not learn much this way, probably.

You're finally posting something worthwhile! :dancing: Jokes make the world go round!

I don't hate Bargs and I hope my posts are not misinterpreted as hate. I'd like to see Bargs do well, but like everyone I'm irked by some of his more obvious deficiencies.

That's sugar coating things a bit. Barg's tweeted that a game against Greece was going to be tough and he really wanted to play well. Then he came out and was totally outplayed by the Greek center who I've never heard of. That game was pretty disheartening.

Still, I saw Bargs do some offensive rebound put-backs dunks this summer which I think are rare for him.

SB nation has Bargs listed as the 57th best NBA player in 2011 (LINK), but they compare him to Brad Miller and Keith Van Horn.

bjjs 09-14-2011 01:35 PM

Take skill, talent, scoring, rebounding out of the equation.

Bargs is a loser.

Maybe he can end up finding a role as a pretty 7 foot bench scorer riding the coat tails of a motivated young group of winners.

Derozan, Valanciunas - winners.
