Default Bargnani Credits Triano For Improvement

Yeah, let's NOT teach accountability for errors. I love also, how he comments that if he makes a mistake, he can come back and score 10 points. He always has the mentality of looking to score for himself. Bah!

Sure, you have to teach accountability?

But is yanking a guy and embarassing him way after he fucks up the ONLY way to do that?

isn't this Phil Jackson's philosophy

he also lets his team play thru their problems by not calling timeouts

If it's the only way he'll listen, then yes.

I give the coach the benefit of the doubt. If you've gone over something a trillion times in the practice and then the player still doesn't get the lesson, the yeah, he SHOULD be embarassed on the court. Remember, all we see is the finished product in the game and not the process.

And really, where has this laissez faire attitude gotten us? Anything really? We all knew he could score, but what cost?

I don't think it's about him going out there to "get his," I think it just comes down to him knowing that scoring the ball is where he helps the team the most.

He's talked a good deal about putting defense first lately. He's getting it. And if he doesn't want to credit anybody but Triano then it's hardly surprising. It's funny that he didn't seem to come up with the idea himself. I don't doubt that a new approach of don't worry be happy could work with the right group under the right circumstances. And that means buying into systems on both ends of the court. And if that doesn't happen, then it can be dealt with by finding players who will.

This isn't a 29 year old veteran we're talking about here, it's a number one pick from Italy with a diverse skillset trying to find his niche in the NBA. Some leeway is required in the way of growing pains.

Also, of course his mentality is to score - that's his forte! Nonetheless, his last game of the season was a 6-block performance; that's not bad for protecting the rim.

I'm disappointed in Bargs' low rebounding totals like everyone else, but one step at a time here. His offensive improvement this year has been spectacular. He went from about 11 points 4 boards a game before december to around 18.5 points and 6 boards after.

Exactly. Jackson forces his players to learn how to think smart on the court, otherwise they find themselves on the bench.

Bargnani came to life starting when JO was down. Triano started Bargnani because he wasn't going to start Voskuhl.

+1

Bargnani took advantage of the opportunity that came with JO going down for over a month and ran with it. He was given a long leash only because there was nobody viable behind him that could play major minutes. Bargnani, and Bargnani alone gets the credit imo. Well him and JO actually.

Triano started Bargnani when J.O. went down because he was the first over-all pick in the damn NBA draft.
And because Colangelo told him to. And because Triano never would have gotten the job if he didn't.
Credit Bargs for living up to the faith that BC showed in him.
Credit Triano for letting the kid play his game. Sam just seemed to confuse the shit out of the guy, which was probably a by-product of the tug-of-war between BC and Sam over Andrea's role/minutes/position etc.
Is it any wonder that AB began to blossom when the team abandoned the idea of him playing the 3?

Bargnani played well from the start of the season. He was much improved from last season from day one. He killed the Warriors on day 2 certainly.

Then what really turned things around for him, was sitting and watching JO fail down the stretch of a few games, before finally sitting out. I swear I could see the wheels spinning in his mind when they showed him on the bench in crunch time. He knew he could at least do a better job than what he was seeing from JO. That kind of knowledge can't hurt. Then he gets the chance to show it. There was no way he was going to look back. It was all straight ahead from there. He just knew he had to stay on the tracks.

So even when Bargs comes out and SAYS that Triano helped his game/confidence/whatever that's still not good enough for ya eh?

OK.

That's alright by me. You're just another who's going to eat his words when this team is in the playoffs next season.

If we are it'll be because the talent was upgraded, not because of Jay Triano. This reminds me of when people here were riping into Sam before and after he got fired and i pointed out the 47 win season and COY award for Sam. I was then told by several, "With the talent on that roster how can he not do well?"

So if the talent is upgraded and we win 43+ games next season and make the playoffs, i'll take that same line. Because i truly don't think Triano is a good coach.

I can't judge Triano yet, because I only saw him start in the middle of the season with no practice time. If he brings it together this offseason and gets the Raps into the playoffs next year, I'll be happy with him. I love how Bargnani is blossoming this season, it's amazing!

Btw Dr. J, where have you been? You didn't post for a while and there were no new threads to roam!
