Default Is Bargnani better at the 3 or 5

Since I haven't watched a full game, only highlights, I do not know how Bargs plays both positions on the defensive and offensive side. Stat lines only tell so much.
I know this offseason Bargnani was training to be a center but does he have a future as a small forward?

In your opinion what position is he better at

center or small forward

PF. Thats his true position. But out of the two positions you mentioned, obviously the answer is center, where he can at least defend his oponents, and can beat them with his shot and fast moves.

Obviously C, but his good play at SF clearly demonstrates what a versatile cat this guy is.

His defense yesterday on Gasol was superb.

I think it's best if he makes the most of his versatility, and does not end up playing pre-dominantly at the 3, 4, or 5.

He is a PF, but with Bosh he's not going to get much time.

Its good to know he has some skill at the center spot

I'd say the 5. But i gotta say that right now he is one of best defensive players. He is really impressing me this season on the defensive end, he has great length/reach and even though he has a tendency to still leave his feet too much, he's getting better at that as well.

Last nights numbers vs Lakers

14pts/11Reb/4blk

The blocks are extremely impressive!

He's averaging 1.7 blocks per game, the same as Duncan

His play at the 3 has opened up a lot of eyes. I mean, I thought he would get wrecked, but he's holding his own and playing superb. When his offence isn't going, he's been working his ass off on D - which is outstanding to see. Looks like this is his coming out party.

I think the important thing is he's better period. This is the most consistant we've seen him play and I agree that even when the offense sputters which it does for all players, he's still playing hard and effective in other areas.

Here's a thought that i believe was already disscused here. What if we traded JO for wing help and started Bargnani at the 5? It's a little early to say Bargnani is our next Centre, but with the Blocks and Rebounding numbers
he's starting to make a case for possibly allowing BC to trade JO down the line if he can stay healthy.

Bargnani in his last 5 games averages:

15pts/8.5Reb/2.2blk

If he keeps up this pace it might be worth considering.

last season I thought he's a PF, but this season I think C is his best position overall. However, it must be said that so far he's doing a great job defensively on all 3 positions (C/PF/SF), which is very surprising. But I would like to see him play C more, so he can get experience posting up because once he's good at that, he will be a fantastic offensive player.

It is what will be done. Hopefully JO shows he still has it and will demand some decent value come next summer. Bargs rebounding is still an area of concern as a center so a rebounding and wings would need to be addressed with the trade.

However, I am still LOVING Bargs at the three and I think he could be a VERY solid option there, but that would leave the middle open which JO fills very nicely. And with the inclusion of Jawaii in the JO deal, I think BCo though that between him and Hump they would be able to fill that role.

I think though that JO will be traded in the summer for a stud 2 guard and a very solid center, and depending on the deal, Bargs will be either a 3 or 5.

If Bargs continues to improve, dare I say, he will be the defensive player of the year in the future

I don't know DPOY..that's really lofty - but it's something to strive for. Right now, he's comfortable and playing fantastic D - you just hope he can keep it up.

He can play well 3 positions, but if you want to have a sequence, here is mine:
4 - he is natural a 4
5 - his body is more suitable at 5 than 3
3 - should Andrea fully develop, his shooting abilities and size makes him a nightmare mismatch

Actually, this season he has me firmly convinced that he can play both 4 and 5 with ease. IMHO, in today's game the defensive capabilities define a player far more than his offence and Bargs has proven to be a more than capable defender in the low post as well as a bit out on the perimeter - provided that his cover is not an athletic swing man 30 pounds lighter than him.

On offence, he will continue to develop his close-range game, but in about 2 years should be comfortable playing anywhere from 2 feet out to 25.
