Exclamation Bargnani Being Shopped Around?

Take it for what's its worth because there is no source provided, but I can also confirm from my own "source" that Bargnani was being mentioned in possible trade talk shortly before the draft. So, you never know and maybe BC isn't done changing this team just yet.

The Source was bang on when he told me about the Oneal trade back in May. I am told that Colangelo is serious about getting this done either in the summer or before the trade deadline.

Very cool. It has to be a sure thing though. Of course.

If they're dealing Bargnani they need to get a prolific player. The Bobcats are probably going to lose Okafor to free agency and Jason Richardson and Gerald Wallace haven't clicked. Wallace was a name being thrown about before the draft but both these guys would offer a huge boost to the Raptors. Wallace would bring D, rebounding and solid scoring. J-Rich would offer the team something rare in this league, a prolific scorer with the explosiveness to take it hard to the rim and the range to drop daggers from three point range.

If they could work something for J-Rich I would be ecstatic.

Just imagine a trio of Bosh, O'Neal and J-Rich with Calderon setting them up. They would give the Celtics a run for their money and anybody out west.

Man I just did that in the trade machine!
J-Rich and someone like Jared Dudley for Bargs, Kapono and Graham. That would be fricken nice..

The Raptors might have to throw in a pick. They would be allowed to throw in the 2009 pick because this years pick was used to select Hibbert and then Hibbert the player, not the draft pick, was traded to the Pacers. The good thing about it is that if the Raptors landed J-Rich they'd be picking in 25-30 range anyway. Thats pretty much just like picking in the 2nd round.

Sounds good. No one will want our 30th pick anyway after we complete the trade if you know what I mean. ;]

You basically need to examine any team that's in a rebuilding phase with an unhappy player.

And right now that's a tough thing to see from any team.

My fear in all of this though is if we trade Bargs + AP + Graham what depth would we be left with?

*enters Swag*

Rod Benson could be some nice insurance for the big men once Bargs and Joey's gone. And would come cheap.

What did that depth do for the team in the playoffs? What about what the Celtics did this last season without any perceived depth?

Yeah, but the Celtics had a top sixth man in James Posey and really added an added jolt with the signing of Sam Cassell. We'd be relying on Jason Kapono and Ukic. Not the same.

Cassell did nothing for them. If they Moved Kapono, Bargnani and a #1 for a guy like J-Rich they would be left with:

5 O'Neal
4 Bosh
3 Richardson
2 Parker
1 Calderon
6 Moon
7 Ukic
8 Adams
9 Jawai
10 Humphries
11 Jawai
12
13
14
15

Really they would only need to pick up a couple more guys to finish off the roster as only 13 dress and rarely do more than 10 play a game. They could nab a vet PG with the vet minimum and then bring in an undrafted kid with some upside. As for the rotation, well that looks alright to me. If Adams and Ukic pan out it would be a fine bench. Hump, Jawai and Graham can handle big man duties off the bench for 10 minutes or so. I would argue that Moon can make as big an impact as Posey coming off the bench.

You listed Jawai for 9 and 11.
10 man rotation? Darrick Martin?
Sign our draft pick we got from San Antonio. Giogo or something. Prizentis.

Our backup big men would be embarrasingly thin (Hump/Graham/Jawai... LOL), but hell, why not. We can sign some scrubs.

I hate Bargs, so I'd be glad to get rid of him. I love the mentality BC has here to not just stop at Caldy/Bosh/JO... that's good but it's not contender good. We probably only have JO and his defense for a few years, so we might as well try to go for it in those years, and then move on to his expiring.

I know they're crazy, but what about Stephen Jackson or Ron Artest? Both teams are looking to go young, and both could use Bargnani. In GS's case they have Brandon Wright at PF, but they might prefer Bargs with the Don Nelson connection, I mean he'd just fit in perfect with that team. If he panned out, Bargs and Biedrins would be a killer frontcourt combo. The Kings just need any building block they can get right now.

I think a lot of teams would recognize that part of Bargs' struggles are because we forced him into the center role... at PF, he'd have a lot more freedom. People aren't stupid and blinded by stats, they see the talent. I don't think we're gonna get an all out superstar or anything at this point, but someone on the level of JRich, SJax, or Artest would be pretty good.

Some other names thrown around be an alternate poster in that realgm thread

Crawford (fuck no)
Gordon (I'd do it, would Chicago?)
Rip (I don't think they'd take it)
Redd (I'd be scared but it could work)

I wish Mike Miller was still in Memphis, that's the exact level of player that would be good enough for us to make noise and not great enough for us to get for Bargs and expirings. Now with Love and Jefferson they don't need Bargs.

I'm not down on including Kapono at all. AP is a good tradable asset. But I think even there we need to get something better than J-Rich. And that's why I would figure that overall it's unlikely. I'm just happy to think that it's being worked on.

Does anyone else think a trade rumor might be exactly what Bargnani needs?

He has it pretty good in Toronto and the thoughts of moving to another team where he can't take anything for granted might be just what he needs to get his career back on track. I have always felt it was his attitude that was holding him back from producing to his potential.
