Raptors Barbosa unsure about his future in Toronto

Quote:
I don’t know what I’m going to do,’’ Barbosa said as he made his return to the desert for the first time since his trade to Toronto. “Nobody knows if things will be changed. No one can expect anything. I enjoy Toronto and I enjoy the team. It’s too bad we’ve been losing a lot. “If I come back to Toronto, I know I will do better. I will do my best.
Quote:
When the Raptors close out their five-game trip in Los Angeles on Saturday, Barbosa plans to meet with his representative, Sam Goldfeder.

What? The guy has a 7.5 million dollar player option, why wouldn't he be here?

Guess he's seriously considering rejecting his player option.. not everyone will take extra money to play for a terrible team and he may be one of those type of people..

Which would be good i really dont wanna see him play for us next season

Maybe he'd rather take a bit of a hair cut to get a more long term contract on a better team......say 4yrs/22Mil??

A 2Mil/yr cut is quite the haircut imo. lol

I think he'd take 5.5Mil/yr for 3-4yrs to go to a better team.

Please take a paycut and go play one on five somewhere else.

+1

objectively, context aside, i like him as a basketball player. just that the tunnel vision and the 7.5 million contract don't make for the greatest fit with a rebuilding team.

He's completely untrustworthy with the basketball in his hands, but he also bring a scoring ability off the bench that every team needs and he can make plays defensively as well. Couple that with the fact that him and Derozan seem to get along really really well, I think it would be a good idea to keep him on the squad as a sixth man.

I dunno I like LB off the bench...

It's not like any other 6th man type players are ever going to pass the ball well, thats what they do it is there job is to provide a lift off the bench.

That being said the times he has been on a 2 or 3 on 1 break this season he has only passed the ball once instead opting to take the shot rather than pass it to a better positioned team mate on the opposite wing, & thats where if anything I get frustrated with his play because that is just greedy.

Just like when Andrea takes a jump shot off a fumbled ball, when he should just pass it - (greedy).

At this point we need to change Coaches, & I'm saying this for the first time.

We need some structure & control going into next season if were able to draft a PG, someone is going to have to tell him what he can or can not do! Along with AB's lack of effort on everything but offence.

IMO

he's been clicking well with Bayless. I could go either way. He could be a good boost on a team that has added some more talent, with a more refined role. It wouldn't kill me to see him get another shot, but I do find him annoying quite often when he's not clicking with anyone and taking terrible shots.

theres no way he turns down that player option... especially with the uncertainty of a possible strike next year.

There is a possibility that Toronto will be better next season. Or is that a pipe dream?

I'd say we will be, but how much better is the question?

I'll go out on a limb and say it depends greatly on what happens in the offseason.

i have to agree with jeff.... If Barbosa's thinking about declining the option it would be because of the total value of the new contract 3-4 yrs. If he plays out the 7 million year, he might not make up the rest of the new contract could have been.
option 1 4yr 4 mill =16 new contract with good team
option 2 1yr 7 mill = 7 mill bad team

can he make up 9 mill in 3 seasons, after another season in an older body

I would like to see him here next season. Gives some experience to the young guys and seems to gel with everyone on the team. He can be a great offensive boost of the bench and can defend. And he's not afraid of any challenge or no one (Henderson and Granger). He's capable of making the big shots and making key passes sometimes (the Amir winning bucket came from Barbosa a few games back). He really likes it here, so why not.

idk.. this year we had so many close games with our young core, i think with a top 5 pick, we can win.

We need way more than a top 5 pick.

It probably will help, but one player does not change everything. For example, Washington got John Wall, and where are they this season? Behind the Raptors in the standings.
