I've cleaned up this thread.

This is my first and last warning.

Keeping running this place down and you're done.

Most of BC's moves made sense at the time, but played out badly and were criticized much later. This one though stinks from the start.
What was different now to the beginning of the season? Why would we have Barbosa then and not now?
Making weak deals lets other GMs know you're a soft touch. So in a similiar context next time we could've got a 1st rounder, if we said 'no' now. While now we definitely won't be getting anything better in future deals.

WOW!

You would have felt better if it was the 28th pick and guaranteed money which would go against the cap? Seriously dude?

What do you want to do with the cap, seriously?

It's too bad we couldn't get more for Barbosa but he's likely coming back next year for cheap so let's not fret. Let's just hope we don't blow our load on Wilson Chandler or any other slightly above average players.

We've talked a lot about the value of draft picks and how come we didn't get more for Barbosa. Read the article - very educational.

I found it confusing. He was saying teams are paying higher amounts for draft picks, then he goes on to say teams are paying higher amounts for veterans. So I guess everybody is paying high. He's definitely high on the 2012 draft. Why is he so sure that the 30th pick is going to be a sure thing and that Corey Joseph can't even touch him. Quite a few exaggerations in the article.

On veterans - I think you've misread him.

Quote:
Thereís clearly more certainty in picking up NBA veterans over projecting college players to the next level, but teams like the Lakers are paying a heavy price for it. Ramon Sessions and Jordan Hill will cost the Lakers at least $9.5 million next season; in contrast, the Lakers could have had Moultrie and Taylor for as little as $3 million if they had kept their picks.
He is talking about salaries of higher picks vs. lower picks and salaries of vets vs. salaries of rookie scale contracts.

On 2012 vs. 2011 - he goes by what NBA teams are thinking and doing.

I thought he meant that in terms of certainty, veterans are the way to go, but that in terms of cost-benefit analysis the best overall value would be with players in this upcoming draft.

i found the article a little convoluted.

i'm sure that once the draft is upon us, teams will be selling their high picks to keep themselves out of luxury taxation. i've never seen a teams sell them before they knew who was available.

I was looking for a thread about this when I first heard about the trade. Just another pathetic move by Colangelo... we are so overdue for a new GM.

"..Itís an added bonus that they can use the reported $7.6 million trade exception to add a player with a long-term commitment via trade over the next 12 months."
But, it's not, is it? TPE expires in July.

What happened with the Bosh TPE? You mean being able to pick up Jerryd Bayless and James Johnson (and Ajinca, though he didn't work out)? Wouldn't want them on our team. We'd have been better off if we let Bosh walk, right?

TPE expires 1 year to the day from when it was created. In July, though, the Raptors will likely renounce the TPE to free up cap space. Although I have outlined before (I believe in the Deron Williams thread) one scenario in which they might be able to use cap space and preserve the TPE for flexibility during the season.
