No brainer, but for 7,6 mil, you can get a better player for that money!
I am OK with him, but sometimes, he is the only one touching the ball. Still, a player that can beat anybody one on one is a great asset.

That means, Sonny is out?

i think barbosa is a good asset for the organisation.
1. he is a good backup sg who can change the pace of a game. rare among the league.
2.an expiring contract, more flexibilities for next year.
3. he has a solid value on the market even after one average season here.

i would believe BC promise him a trade for get him to stay. because brazilian team can also put money, sure money for next season. so i don't think this is money busness, especially with a lockout.
Its all about oppurtunity for him to go in a contender.

i would think the spurs or NYK or lakers would take him.
a.spurs : for leonard + first round 2012
b.NYK for schumpert + thuriaf
c.Lakers for artest

lakers need a solid sg who can bring some scoring and energy off the bench. especially if Kobe is limited.

Same for NYK, who really need a solid SG backup, behind fields.

The spurs need to replace the gap at pg/sg, because they trade HILL.
and barbosa can bring them more scoring off the bench.

and if we keep him, i would be really please too.
we have a young team and we need some vets. but he is easier to trade than caldy, for sure.

Barbosa is a great player. I'm sure he would help with a contending team. I feel like we're wasting his talents. It appears that we are not going to be good any time soon, so might want to move him to a contending team and pick up some prospects for the future.

Good thing or a bad thing?

Actually, a bit of both. I think Barbosa is a great piece for this team, but I also REALLY like the idea of trying to restructure his contract. If we can get him for more years at a cheaper rate, that means we can 1) have more cap space, 2) make it easier to trade him to a contender.

I was hoping that he wouldn't pick up his contract (in the short-term), as DeRozan will play a lot of minutes, and with the (hopeful) emergence of Bayless, that means Barbosa will play a little less. However, Barbosa as a 6th man makes a lot of sense; on a better contract, it will be easier to trade him if he starts to decline and loses his speed. Contenders will always look for a guy like that, so from an asset perspective, he makes a lot of sense to retain.
