It's just that the people criticizing him are doing a bad job at it. Giant exaggerations. They're setting up the +1s all on their own. Words like atrocious as LX pointed out.

I was reading a Ryan Wolstat article on the train last night - that guy doesn't know what he's talking about. The Toronto Sun is doing a disservice to Toronto basketball fans by publishing his work. A casual fan reading his articles, and assuming he knows what he is talking about, would become less educated about the game of basketball. Toronto needs better basketball writers writing for their newspapers. Like Lowry and Grievis are the only ones who should be handling the ball in transition?? Why would he write that unless he doesn't know what he's talking about.

But calling him a superstar is not exaggeration? Anyway I had enough of that, I'm not here to turn anyone against Derozan. I'm happy when team is playing well and I don't care who is going to help us win as long as we win. But it bugs me that people are so quick to jump on and off the bandwagon and when they do it's all black and white.
I really don't hate Derozan, I was the one saying in the preseason that if he will continue playing like he does he will be top 10 sg. And people were calling me a moron, JoeyJo was one of them. Doesn't seem that crazy now does it?
There are very few players in the league that have no major flaws and that's fine, DD has his and he is working on it. All I want is that people would stop sugar coating those flaws or make it seem like a blasphemy if you mention them.

Agree seems like some of those articles are written in 10 minutes just to write something. I expect much more from so called basketball analysts, but It seems like Toronto Sun cares more about quantity over quality. Some of the posters in here could do a much better job

I don't think people are getting a -1 for mentioning them, they're getting a -1 for mentioning them and then concluding that the flaws are a reason for why he needs to be traded, or how he is actually the biggest weakness in the Raptor's offense.

No offense bud but you sound like some silly kid who can't let something he said a long time ago go.

I really couldn't stand a lot of DD's game for a lot of years but man oh man,
if you cannot see that the kid has taken it to another stratosphere
then I think you are suffering from some kind of delusion.

The kid is playing like a superstar!

The positive and honest attitude, the moves, the timing of plays, the defense, the team play, the leadership, the confidence and that scowl, the power & dominance,
the creating of his own shot, the driving to the basket and all those free throws, the high free throw %,
the actually HITTING of 3's!
The kid couldn't hit the side of a barn a few years ago and look at the sh*t he is doing now!!

As George Takei would say ...

Either you are crazy or you're not paying attention.

Yea calling me a silly kid, sure makes your post so much more valid. Please chose a part of my post that you disagree with and give reason why and how am I wrong in your opinion and I will be glad to discuss it. Otherwise I see no reason to respond your intelligent post

Hmmm...i think that is some exaggerating on the positive side. There is no stratosphere. I think he has always had a lot of heart and a love for the game. That is why i always thought it could be a huge mistake to trade him. He still has some growing to do. And that is where the excitement should lie. He is one of those stars that gets to where he is through hard work and passion, like a Dirk or a rip hamilton. The experience he is getting now is just going to help that much more. But there is no need to be overblown about it, outside of how much he has exceeded expectations, which is truly great.

No need to take it so personally man. Just my goofy, uneducated, silly, obnoxious, opinion.

Sorry if I hurt your feelings.

Maybe my helmet is on too tight but I am seeing the emergence of a superstar.
What exactly did I exaggerate? Everything I said is true.
Has he not been all those things I've said and more in these playoffs?

This is the most important Raptors basketball in a decade and
he has stepped up and taken control of our destiny.
His advancements in every area of the game have been incredible.

He also has that secret ingredient you can't put a finger on...
Call it heart, desire, fire, passion, whatever.
Demar Derozan has got it.

He has been our best player in these playoffs by far,
without him our goose would be cooked.

PPG is up 3.7(have to go per 36 here)
FGA up 2.8
fg% is down .16
3pt% up .02
TRB up 0.3
Asst up 1.3
EFG% and TS% down
TRB% up 0.3
Asst% up 6.9
ORating up 5 above career average and last seasons
Drating 107 4 better than career average

Net rating of 3. first time in career a net positive.

Usage up 3.8

Demars improvements can be attributed to a couple of factors.

1) His improvements in PPG comes from an increase in FGAs. Of course credit is due for him maintaining his shooting percentages with the increase in shots per game.

2) His offensive rating improvements come mostly from the increase in his Asists, and his increase in assists has some to do with his increase in usage. He has the ball alot more often in his hands, therefore the opportunity is there for an increase in the potential for passes that lead to buckets. Credit should be given though for passing the ball, and for his teamates making the shots.

3) His defensive rating improvements can be attributed to generally being afforded to be hid on that end of the court. His defense as a whole is still pretty rought as a quick look at the numbers when he is singled out reveal a fair bit of work still needing to be done, but having Ross, Fields, etc being able to guard the "offensive threat" from opposing teams certainly takes alot of pressure off him on that side of the floor.

That is one im not so quick to shout out from the ceilings over. Most of our information in this regards is second hand from people that either represent the teams directly, or indirectly, or from Demars own twitter accounts etc. I cannot say with any certainty that he works harder than others based solely on the reasoning that the mouths that are speaking it, should be speaking it irregardless of the truth on the subject.

I cannot say that he works harder than Vasquez, or Fields or whoever. I can only assume that to be true.

In regards to this only players who have averaged more than 10 minutes only Ross and Salmons have a worse FG%

No one has attempted more shots than Demar
3rd in Ass%
7th in TRB%
8th in steal%
1st by a mile in usage
5th in offensive rating
7th in defensive rating
6th in per
6th in net per

In terms of numerical reasoning the best performers this offseason would be based on net ratings.

PAtterson - 25
Amir - 23
GV - 12
Kyle - 6
JV - 0
Demar - (-4)

Basically according to the net numbers, we are best using PG/Bigmen combos.

demar = superstar now is beyond ridiculous, so I won't go there.
potential to become one? Only by a very loose definition of the term.

however, I now believe that there is a legitimate chance demar can, one day, make an all-nba 2nd or 3rd team and earn himself a max contract. Which, before the season, would have sounded insane to all but his unrealistic die-hard supporters. Lots of improvement still needed to get there though, starting with his defense and strength.
