Something has gotta give with Memphis. They agreed with a contract for Zach Randolph for 71 million (66 million guaranteed). Rudy get 82 million last summer, Michael Conley signs 40 million last fall. Michael Heisley is one of the cheapiesest owners in the NBA and the franchise is one of the bottom teams regarding attendance. Either they are pricing themselves out of the next contract for Marc Gasol or trading Rudy Gay.

So you guys would rather have Aaron Gray over Andrea? Are we talking about the same Aaron Gray and Andrea Bargnani. Look, I know that people hate Andrea, and his defence is kind of (really) lame, but Aaron Gray over Andrea? That baffles me. He'd be a good backup, or at most start him at center and push Andrea to PF.

Isn't nene going to retire soon to do church missions? As much as I like him, I think he'll be out of the league in the next few years..So we would put a lot of faith in assuming he's a part of the core, then he will most likely leave. Love the player, just don't know if it's worth the risk if we can get another center that will be dedicated.

As for the Raptors, Gasol is at the top of the list and I increasingly doubt it will happen. Heisley used to be such a cheap MOFO, and now he seems willing to spend. First Rudy got a huge extension, then Randolph...he'll probably lock up Gasol now.
100% agree. Gasol is an excellent center, hopefully he would consider Toronto based on the euro flare the city has haha. He would definitely be an asset on the offensive and defensive end of the floor.

True, but they also have a group of players on VERY cheap contracts. Tony Allen, Sam Young, Darrel Arthur, and X. Henry cost under 12$ next season. They have Mayo at one more season on his rookie contract, as well. This balances out their payroll quite nicely.

I think the "something" that "has gotta give" could be Battier (unless he takes a paycut) and eventually Mayo. Gasol is more important than Mayo.

But, for the record, I do find Heisley's sudden willingness to spend quite surprising. I mean this guy spent months low-balling Rudy. He could have saved around $20 million if he had just signed Rudy at his initial asking price back in the fall of 2009.

Maybe he's trying to launder dirty money, and thinks throwing it at his players is a good way to do it. ha, hopefully he runs out and is obligated to let Gasol walk, Jose hopefully has a good relationship with him like he does Pau is all I have to say.

Heisley also went cheap with Xavier Henry and Vasquez with their ROOKIE CONTRACTS. They were one of the last first round rookies to sign their contracts. Memphis ranked 27th in the league in attendance, no way Heisly goes over the cap and losses more money. Someone with a big contract will get traded or they let Gasol walk.

I believe Yao Ming said he was going to retire if he cant stay healthy for an entire season. I dont think he's worth the risk if he is going to have feet/leg problems. It'll sorta be like the Hakeem incident all over again.

I'll actually like to try and see if the Raps can get Oden but that seems very unlikely. Who knows maybe offering our first rounder this year could make them budge

Last year, I would have said you're absolutely right. Now, I'm just not so sure.

And you're right about him going cheap on last year's rookie contracts. He has displayed cheap behaviour on several occasions. That's what makes his recent spending all the more baffling.

Heisley is in a really tough market. I would guess he wasn't necessarily cheap just for the sake of being cheap. With the economic downturn it could have simply been out of necessity. Now he could just be able to make the investment that will in turn bring in revenue that was not there to be tapped into before.

I dont believe Nene retiring because of his church things. It sounds just that ridiculous. Whatever, do you guys want the guy who dreams to be a priest..? How he even play on Sundays? Maybe he do a confession? And you know, Raptors... I mean, word raptor is just like spit in the face to any creationist haha...

The talk of Nene going back to his home country to become a priest reminds me of Eko from Lost.

Kwame Brown.

He is one of the best paint defenders in the league. Offers little to nothing on offense but that isn't this team's problem. He'd come cheap, too.

agreed.. Rudy is one of my fav players in the league.. if we could acquire him.. then wow.. just an all-around great player.. i know there's about a 1% chance of it happening.. but hey you never know.

The Raptors drafted Rafael Araujo

therefore

The Raptors should never draft a center again.

Its not set in stone that we will get the third pick.. but if we do get the third pick we better not draft a center.

What happens if this year draft happens, and then there is no season next year? Would we still have the third worst record, and then have the third best chance at getting the first pick the next season? Because that would be cool! haha
