Austin Rivers?

Don't know how much truth there is to this, but I just read this on rotoworld and haven't seen it posted anywhere on here yet.

The Raptors "expressed a lot of interest" in Duke guard Austin Rivers.
Toronto has the No. 8 overall pick, although the team is expected to shop the pick prior to the draft. If the club sticks with the selection, Rivers could be a name on their draft board. The Raptors are "attracted to his assertive, don't back-down attitude." Doc Rivers' son projects as a likely lottery pick.

and a second interesting note :

Duke guard Austin Rivers has a "promise late in the draft lottery," a source tells Yahoo! Sports.
Just like with Dion Waiters, it's rather strange that a team picking in the lottery would be willing to guarantee Rivers that he's their pick this early in the process. The Hornets, Blazers, Bucks, Suns and Rockets hold picks 10-14, and we could see Rivers making varying levels of sense for any of those teams.

He doesn't seem like the right fit to me but I honestly don't know THAT much about him, I thought he was projected to go in the tweens.
What do you guys think about him? :reporter::confused2:

I've seen him projected in the 10-13 range.

I like Rivers alot,i'm going to beat my angle to death which is that you bring him in and make him become an explosive point guard like a Russell Westbrook

Russel is an athletic freak who can't shoot. Rivers is a shooter without elite athleticism. Don't see that at all.

He's not anywhere near Westbrook.... that guy is an athletic beast.

I get that he has pedigree, but he's whoever suggested Barbosa or even a jamal crawford would be a good comparison.

Why not another Steph Curry??? He has high basketball IQ, nba pedigree, never back down attitude! We need players like that.

I can see why BC may have interest in him but I don't think he'd be the bpa at 8.

yeah, I think there are too many good prospects to be had at 8 to take a long shot on a guy because he is "never backs down".
I could join the NBA and never back down but I doubt that is really going to help me much when I'm getting mozgoved every 3 minutes.

He's Jerryd Bayless. Rivers is actually one of the most overrated shooting prospects in years. 36.5% from 3 is OK, the more important indicator is that he's a 65.8% FT shooter. 90% of players who hit FTs like that suck at shooting. If he's only a Bayless level shooter in the pros and similarly is a fast guy who lacks the finishing ability or spatial awareness/feel for the court to be a PG, it would not surprise me at all.

^^ I see Bayless, too. They both play too fast for their own good and lack varying gears of speed, and vision.

No mention of Toronto there at the end when he talks about his agent picking the best teams for him. Something about him is corny to me, especially when he compares himself to Michael Jordan and does a little smirk? weird.

He absolutely does remind me of Jared Bayless. Basketball IQ is great but this guy does not look like a star to me, he looks like he can have a good, long career because of his nature but I don't see him being anywhere near a superstar. :mf_missing:

He sounds like he's a very smart ball player.
