Atlantic Will Definitely Be More Competitive
Just a little diddy from The Sports Network about how already the Atlantic Division has improved so far this off season, pointing out how Philly and Toronto have made their move up the charts in the Eastern Conference. :dancing:

A six-time All-Star, the 29-year-old O'Neal averaged 13.6 points and 6.7 rebounds in just 42 games in 2007-08, and has been hampered by various injuries in recent seasons.

O'Neal and All-Star big man Chris Bosh are expected to combine to give the Raptors a dangerous one-two punch down low.

Toronto was eliminated by Orlando in round one of the postseason, and the front office expects bigger things this coming season and in the playoffs.

Raptors head coach Sam Mitchell is definitely on the hot seat, and likely has to lead the Raptors past the first round if he wants to remain on the sidelines up north. Toronto has won just one playoff series in franchise history, defeating the Knicks, 3-2, in the first round of the 2001 postseason.

The Celtics won the Atlantic Division by a distant 25 games this past season, and remain the team to beat in the East, but thanks to the new impact players, business has picked up in both the division and conference.

This isnt the same old Atlantic division that it was years ago. It is turning into a strong division. I think Boston will still be at the top, but the second spot still remains uncertain. Most likely us.

1. Boston Celtics
2. Toronto Raptors
3. Philidelphia 76ers
4. New Jersey Nets
5. New York Knicks

thing is, the atlantic division should ALWAYS be the number one in the league. You have 4 of the top 7-8 cities on the continent represented. In terms on economic power, this division is by far the number one in the league ...

Just thank god NBA doesn't follow the NHL rule with the top teams in each division get 1-2 automatically, or else that wouldn't be good at all for us.

Joshz 07-23-2008 05:18 PM

Obviously Toronto and Philly's acquisitions are large improvements but i think that both the nets and the knicks will be horrid teams next season, everyone knows the nets are playing for LBJ, i can't see them being close to 500...Division has some very good teams and some very bad...either way, the west is still overpoweringly dominate in comparsion to the east.

Apollo 07-25-2008 11:41 AM

I think the Knicks should have taken a PG with their 1st round pick. They're going to be at the bottom again this season competing for the 1st overall pick in the draft.

Gurk 07-26-2008 04:09 AM

Knicks suck and so do the Nets
hopefully toronto will finish above Philly

Major 07-26-2008 08:53 AM

Well it won't be easy that's for sure. But you know what, I think we'll finish just barely above them. I mean, we beat them before we can beat them again. I realize they have a whole different team, but hey, we're a different team as well.

Gurk 07-26-2008 09:02 AM

THe thing is without Iggy(who they haven't signed yet) I think the Sixers are no better than last season

Apollo 07-26-2008 12:31 PM

He will re-sign. I don't see any team out there who can give him more money than the 76ers at this point but you are right, if he doesn't resign, they won't be able to hang with the Celtics or Raptors.

Sixers still have no shooting. Theyre gonna have the same problems in the playoffs next year as they had this year which is halfcourt offence because teams will just sag on Brand and play off of whoever is the closest teammate to Iggy when he has the ball. The middle will be shut closed unless they trade either Iggy or Young for a package including a Rip or Redd because they lineup they have right now may get them 50 wins in the reg season but in the post season vs a good coach/team theyll lose in 5-6 games.

Superjudge 07-26-2008 02:45 PM

Sorry Thriller, I don't buy it man.

Often just addingone really solid piece makes a huge difference.

Philly was awesome in the second half of last year.

While they have lost nothing, they have gained an all star.

Philly is a definite player this year.

The East is getting better man, much better I think.

Joshz 07-27-2008 03:24 AM

Much better might be a stretch Other than the brand deal there really wasn't any big trade benefiting an eastern conference team, the O'Neil trade makes toronto a playoff team whether in the east or west, but an aging Pistons team did next to nothing, Orlando's additions are middle of the line at best, Atlanta hasn't improved and is just trying to keep Josh Smith now. Rose isn't ready to make MAJOR contributions, but Beasley and Miami got quite a bit better.

I think the teams that had the best offseason are Portland (Bayless gives them a PG to play with/off of Roy, Batum nice prospect, and bringing Rudy over) LAC (Davis gives them a nice PG option, Eric Gordan can fill it up, and Camby gives them still 2 options underneath,) MEM (Mayo brings an attitude, Darrel Arthur is a nice big, solid athlete, and Marc Gasol looks solid...a starting 5 of Conley(Lowry, or Crittenton) Mayo Gay Arthur and Gasol is beaming with potential

Toronto and the 76ers both are included, each team possibly achieving conference superiority, but Memphis' future, Porlands now, and LAC retooling the west improved in more ways maybe of less magnitude tho

rapsfan087 07-27-2008 09:24 AM

I loved Memphis stand up, but I'm not confidence on Iavaroni.

Apollo 07-27-2008 10:17 AM

I see the Clippers going no where. Camby is an old man and that truth might catch up with him as early as this season.

Major 07-27-2008 11:53 AM

I think the Clips are a better team than last year. I'm guessing they may be able to pull off about 30 wins this year. I know, in the West, 30 wins is flat-out brutal, but it'll be an improvement from last year anyway.

But yeah, they're going no where.

Ball Don't Lie 07-27-2008 11:57 AM

If the Clippers stay healthy they should win at least 42 games IMO, problem is they probably have the most injury prone pg/c combo in the league with Baron and Camby. But if they do somehow stay healthy, you cant really underestimate a Thornton/Camby/Kaman frontcourt with Baron controlling things i nthe backcourt, they have 3 legit postup options on offence and their paint defence should be the best in the league. If Thornton continues to improve from last year they should be in contention for that 8th spot for sure.

moremilk 07-27-2008 02:09 PM

I'm afraid Baron will revert to his 3pt shooting spree and since he's probably very angry about the turnout, he will try to take things over too much. In any case, 42 wins is only good for lottery in the west.
