Default Arsenalist: “If I need more scoring…I’ll play Joey Graham”

This is hilarious.

Nice job Arsenalist.

That’s a serious quote in response to being asked who he’s going to play at small forward. There’s more on this staged race for a starting spot in the Sun today. I stay staged because as bad as Jamario Moon has been in the preseason, Joey Graham hasn’t been any better. He had one good game against Minnesota and threw down a couple big dunks here and there but that flash isn’t going to impress Mitchell. There’s no way Graham gets the starting nod on opening day, Mitchell loves Moon too much to let a bad preseason cost him his job. Mitchell went on to say in the post-practice interview:

” We aare faaaainn toooning and thais thangs we can dooo baater, we can doo this baater, we can doo that baater. We eksicuoooted on affense aand deefense a lat baater today…Aim going to be a reeeaall stikler abaout taking caare af da baaskatball. We turning daaon tooo maany open shats. To be aanest wich you I dint eeven no we played ar games en a spaace af naaain daze”

Hilarious guy this Mitchell character. There’s an article in the star where Dave Feschuk thinks that Mitchell’s a lot less optimistic about how the Raptors will fare on opening day than his two studs. I don’t see it, I think everybody acknowledges that there’s work to be done and that the things we set out to accomplish at the start of the preseason weren’t all accomplished. As O’Neal pointed out some of it does have to do with the games being congested and not spread apart properly but that’s not stopping anyone from being confident that they can’t fix the problems in the next couple weeks.

I personally don't care who starts at this point; however... if it is going to Jamario in the starting spot, I'd really like to see Joey get some solid minutes at the get-go. He's built up some momentum I'd like to see nurtured with some minutes, and God knows how hard it is for him to get into any sort of groove.

if you think about it, just about anybody on raps roster is a better scorer than Moon

.. and yet he is the starter and will shine this season. Game is not only about scoring

I saw the actual comments being made, and in full context, he was referring to Joey being more aggressive on offense, which he definitely is, and Jamario being able to do some other things on defense that Joey generally doesn't.

And if Sam is an idiot Snooch - then what does that make Colangelo?

And the article in the Star was by Doug Smith, and it simply pointed out how players need to see the glass half-full, and allow the coaches to do their job in correcting their mistakes and working on improvements. There was nothing insinuated as to any possible difference of opinion or approach. The headline is a bit misleading, and something you would expect to see above a Feschuk piece though. It's always good to read closely.

It doesn't matter who starts, Joey or Jamarion, both are average at best. See ya!

A fair man, conducting a grand experiment giving Sam everything he needs to be successful. ie; players that are considered "Sam" type of players to see if he can actually do something or fall flat on his face.

That doesn't at all sound like a guy who put the team in the hands of an idiot.

He probably thinks he's an idiot already, but if he doesnt he has made mistakes in the past. But obviously some of the guys like him and Sam always has his excuses; if the team would rebound better, play harder on defense we would win more. Which I cant say for tehe most part isnt true, but BC has continually made the team better through trades and signings and I tink this season is definately the test,

If Sam does, and I hope he do, prove to me that he isnt a utter and totoal failure, I will be the first to admit I was wrong. But I am not feeling that is going to happen.

For a very new coach in the NBA, that took over a team that didnt make the playoffs in previous years, Sam has faired EXTREMELY well, the haters are the idiots.

Yeah, after Sam took over we immediately become a playoff team ... NOT. With Sam we had a worse record in first two seasons than the seasons before, and let's face it, the previous 2 coaches were not hall-of-famers either. If you rate his performance as EXTREMELY WELL, I think the problem is with your standards ...

You could say that Avery Johnson has faired EXTREMELY WELL in his first two seasons, which didn't stop him for being fired ...

It still doesn't change the fact that Sam Mitchell can't run a play to save his life and has showed little improvement in this area. He's a great motivator and is great at getting team cohesion, but that's probably the only attribute that I see that seems to really affect the team in a positive way.

there was some improvement - our defense was better last season compared with the past. But the major test is ahead, this season we should easily be a top 10 defensive team. And we should get 45-50 wins, barring any major injuries. Pretty much all analysts, media people and fans agree on these points. It's up to Sam to pull it off.

Mitchell proves once again that he is no great basketball mind.

It's annoying that a handfull of coaching see the world the way it is (like Popovich, Phil Jackson, and Larry Brown 10 years ago), and the rest basically see it through rose coloured glasses.

Sam Mitchell was right. In the interview which i saw on RapsTV,Mitchell said that Joey Graham is more agressive and can score more easily, while Jamario is a better defender. So the matchups will dictate how he will play those two.I completly agree here.

Jamario moon is nowhere near agressive. He's a chucker who is either too chicken to go to the hoop,or thinks he's a three point threat.Either way he's wrong and is probably no brighter then Joey.
