Default Arsenalist: Get ready to half-heartedly boo VC

Boo or not to boo ... that is the question.

Should Raptors fans continue the tradition or just move on finally?

Such is not the case, he’s drifted off into mediocrity and most fans are thankful that he’s not here. Picture the Raptors with Vince’s $17M salary over the next four years, it’s not pretty. When I watch Vince play I’m not angry, I’m sad. I’m sad that here is a talent that had the potential to be one of the greatest players ever and so far has been completely wasted because of lack of commitment or direction. It’s the “what could’ve been” that bugs me more than anything, I wouldn’t even care if he became a superstar with another club, I just wanted to see his potential realized because it would’ve been spectacular and something to behold. That year when he was on the cover of ESPN The Magazine, I was sure he’d end up in the Hall of Fame, how wrong I was. It’s important to note that when he left he didn’t diss the city or the fans, he dissed the organization which is something we do on a daily basis. But hey, boo away, it makes for a great atmosphere.

How long ago did McGrady go? And that dude STILL gets booed. VC will get booed - and pretty lustily. Hell, people are still using the 'VC sucks' chant - at games in which the opponent isn't New Jersey.

Mac 'Greedy' deserves being booed. VC doesn't. He served Raptors well. MacGreedy was baby-sit in Toronto while he was weeping for his mother and yet he didn't even talk to Raptors.

I think VC gets booed for the way he forced his departure from Toronto, basically he was totally unprofessional, by his behavior he sent his trading value down; Raptors got back for him only garbage. Should VC act professionally, I wouldn't approve booing ...

I think not booing and being totally indifferent would be far more insulting to Vince.

I think he is just so pathetic now.... He deserves pity more than scorn at this point. Poor fucker. Is there anyone in this league who respects him?

To be honest, I don't care anymore. Boyfriend is taking me to the game tonight and I am going to cheer for les Raptors. That is all. Booing is a waste of energy.

Wouldn't it be cool if everyone laughed at him instead? That would be novel and appropriate.

He will go down as the most hated Toronto athlete of all time. He will be booed.

Personally, i dont even care anymore.
Would I boo him? Yes, because its fun to boo the opponent, and create a loud atmosphere.
Would I boo him because I hate him? No, because frankly, I don't anymore. He's insignificant.

why waste time booing a guy who is just doing his job and taking care of himself! i hated the way he left, but that was his choice and HE and HE alone has to sleep with those thoughts every night. i am pretty sure he could care less what 19000 Raptors fans think as he is an icon in NC and loved in NJ which have alot more pull in the basketball world than toronto. it happens in every sport, so just go and cheer for the Raptors and let vince finish what is left of a promising career then fade away.

I'd take him on our wing right now rather than Parker, Kapono or Moon.

here is what Matt Devlin spoke about to James on the DinoNationblog from the second part of his interview. it was a good read for sure!

Quote:
Matt Devlin- Listen, I understand why fans take exception to Vince. From a stand point of they feel burned by him. I understand why people feel a certain way towards him, and it is understandable. Should you move on? Well that is up to the individual who am i to say. I don't know from a specific standpoint, each individual has their own feelings about Vince and what he has said and what he has done. But I do know that a lot of people feel burned by it. If they feel that they got burned and they never want to cheer for Vince Carter, so be it. If the feel that time has passed enough that there o.k with Vince and moved on from it, so be it as well.

But from a fan perspective, that what makes it fun, that whole love and hate relationship. That is what builds rivalries and that is what keeps people passionate about the game. There are guys that you want to see and guys that you don't want to see. There are guys that you want to see because you don't like them. That is part of every sport not just basketball.
sport is ultimately about passion and competition. we know many feel snubbed by Vince and have a right to voice an opinion every time he comes to town. i respect that, but at what point is it just time to move on?

I beg to differ, Larry Murphy was so hated he was booed everytime he touched the puck during his stay in Toronto and later admitted it had severe phychological effects on his game during that period, he had the last laugh tho, he went to the Wings and won a cup. Vince only has the luxery of being booed as a visitor, altho he deserved to be booed the entire last season here.

I'm pretty sure he would be welcomed back with open arms if he were to EVER don a Raps jersey again.

What happened when he acquired Davis, again? No one booed him, yet he was heartily booed when he visited the ACC as a visitor.

Actaully, I was at AD's first game and there was a mixed reaction the first game and it continued for another game or two.. then it quieted down... and then he hurt his back.

But would the fans accept Vince back? Damn straight they would.
