Default AP really pissed me off last night

Anyone else notice how open Ray Allen was for all of his 5 three's in the first quarter yesterday while our supposed best backcourt defender was playing him.

When you're playing a guy like Ray Allen you can't leave him to help. Especially when he's on fire. Yet sure enough, everytime a pass was made to any player other than Allen AP was running around like an idiot leaving Ray Allen (one of the NBA's best shooters with a lightning quick release) wide open. Then they'd make the pass to him, and AP would lunge frantically towards him. He'd get within about two arm lengths as Allen made the shot. Then....repeat.

Ray Allen scored 36 last night. Prior to that he was averaging about 16. Why? because when every other team plays against Boston they take away Allen's shot. He is not a threat to beat you off the dribble. When is the last time you saw Allen put the ball on the floor, beat his defender and make a basket in the paint? It doesn't happen.

This is the kind of stupid play that drives me insane.

Sorry for the rant. Had to get it off my chest.

So for tonight, how do we approach the Celts? Put AP back on Allen again or bump him over to Pierce and let Moon cover Ray?

I agree, it was silly to leave him open, but it`s also tough when your PG is getting beat pretty much everytime by Rondo and forcing players to help, thus perhaps making AP help and all Ray needs is an inch and he will most of the time take the whole mile.

We gotta get Rondo to shoot, so some one big on him. But no moon cause he bites on every fake.

You put Moon on Rondo and Soloman or Ukic on Ray TIGHT dont let him breath type man to man.

Alot of teams putting lanky athletic guards on Rondo, he is the key to getting Ray and others open looks with his penetration.

The thing is...when your pg gets beat the only players in a position to help are your bigs. All AP can do in that case is leave his man wide open and maybe foul the ball carrier....that being said if the pg gets beat and a big helps, depending on the rotation the offside, or topside guard may have to dive down to take away the second pass...but playing against a guy like Allen you take that chance and stick with him. And if you don't from the start of the game, you sure as hell do once he hits three three's on you in a row.

Allen is very good at getting open, it isnt just abount PG penetration with him, Boston just continually ran him around staggered screen that AP was continually getting hung up on.

Im not a big fan of having AP run the point, i think Ukic and Soloman have been alright and they need PT to improve. I think we looked real good with Ukic at the end of the game and he could guard Ray.

Whoever it is that guards Rondo has to try to make him shoot. Two steps back if you have to be. If he's hitting jumpers we're in trouble anyways.

Tonight I'd have AP, Graham, or Moon on Rondo with their role being nothing but taking away his penetration. Allow him as many shots as he wants to take.

Then play Soloman on Allen. He's quick enough to chase Allen around.

I think someone above already said this...sorry for not quoting.

Yes, Allen is great at getting open. No doubt. He's one of the best in the game with using screens and making cuts...that wasn't the case last night. For most of his shots he was standing still when he caught the ball. He wasn't off a fresh cut. This was the case early on at least.

Pierce will abuse AP.
Allen bombed 3's on AP all day yesterday... Pierce will drive around AP all night tonight.
i still dont see why people praise AP for his defensive skills.
He's a good help defender with quick hands, thats it. He always gets burned on iso.
